PFD view appears. Select t he PFD you want t o access fr om t he

As a graphic represent at ion of your flowsheet , t he PFD shows t he


connect ions am ong all st ream s and operat ions, also known as ‘obj ect s’.
Each obj ect is represent ed by a sym bol or ‘icon’. A st ream icon is an
arrow point ing in t he direct ion of flow, while an operat ion icon is a
graphic repr esent at ion of t he act ual physical operat ion. The obj ect
nam e or ‘label’ appears near each icon.
Fly- by I nform at ion
Like any ot her non- m odal view, t he PFD view can be r e- sized by
Size Mode
clicking and dragging anyw her e on t he out side border. Ot her funct ions
I con you can perform while t he PFD is act ive include t he following:

When you are working in t he PFD, t he st ream s and operat ions ar e also
colour- coded t o indicat e t heir calculat ion st at us. The m ixer and inlet
separat or are com plet ely calculat ed, so t hey have a black out line. For
t he heat exchanger Gas/ Gas, however, t he condit ions of t he t ube side
out let and bot h shell side st ream s are unknown, so t he exchanger has a
yellow out line indicat ing it s unsolved st at us.

The icons for all st ream s A sim ilar colour schem e is used t o indicat e t he st at us of st ream s. For
inst alled t o t his point are
dark blue except for t he
m at erial st ream s, a dark blue icon indicat es t he st ream has been
Heat Exchanger shell- flashed and is ent irely known. A light blue icon indicat es t he st ream

I n t he next st ep you will inst all a chiller, which will be m odeled as a
Cooler. The operat ion is inst alled using t he Obj ect Palet t e t he PFD.

Adding the Chiller to the PFD


1. Press F4 t o access t he Obj ect Palet t e
The Chiller will be added t o t he right of t he Gas/ Gas, so m ake som e
em pt y space available in t he PFD by scrolling t o t he right using t he
horizont al scroll bar.
2. Click t he Coole r icon on t he Obj ect Palet t e.
Cooler icon I f you click t he wrong but t on, click t he Ca n ce l icon.
3. Posit ion t he cursor over t he PFD.

Checking the Sales Gas Dew Point


The next st ep is t o check t he SalesGas st r eam t o see if it m eet s a dew
point t em perat ure specificat ion. This is t o ensure no liquids form in t he
t ransm ission line. A t ypical pipeline dew point specificat ion is 15o F at
8 0 0 psia , which will be used for t his exam ple.

You can t est t he current dew point by creat ing a st ream wit h a
com posit ion ident ical t o SalesGas, specifying t he dew point pressure,
and having UniSim Design flash t he new st ream t o calculat e it s dew
point t em perat ure. To do t his you will inst all a Balance operat ion.

2.2.1 Process Description
This exam ple m odels a crude oil pr ocessing facilit y consist ing of a pre-
fract ionat ion t rain used t o heat t he crude liquids, and an at m ospheric

value for bulk viscosit y is not supplied, t here is no need t o delet e or
change t he t em perat ure values.
