1 Scope

This standard identifies acceptable commodities for Wastewater Treatment Equipment


Class 32 materials.

2 Conflicts and Deviations

2.1 Any conflicts between this standard and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Engineering Standards (SAESs), Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or buyer representative through the
Manager, Environmental Protection Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this standard in writing to the Company or
Buyer representative, who shall forward such requests to the Manager,
Environmental Protection Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran. The EPD
Manager shall follow internal Company procedure SAEP-133 to process the
request.

4 Definitions

9COM Material #: Commodity material number.

Acceptable: Approval is not required to place a purchase order for the product.
After the order has been placed, the Supplier of this product must ensure that he
complies with all aspects of the purchasing contract (e.g., must meet the Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specification).

Approval: Written authorization by the Manager, Environmental Protection


Department, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran. He shall approve revisions to the RVL standards
and the SAP-based RVLs, and shall also approve manufacturers on a one- time basis.

License Agreement: A contract between a Supplier and an owner of rights to an


equipment design, allowing a Supplier to either (1) assemble the equipment using all
the pieces provided by the design owner or (2) assemble the eqipment using a
combination of pieces provided by the design owner and pieces manufactured by the
licensee to the design owner’s deatailed drawings/specifications. The contract between
the licensor and licensee would (1) require the licensee to follow the licensor
manufacturing procedures and be routinely audited by the licensor for compliance and
(2) require the equipment to be marked and labeled using the licensor’s brand name.

Made: Created from raw materials and/or assembled by the manufacturer.

Manufacturer: The Manufacturer is the organization that constructs all or a


component part of the 9 Comm equipment. All companies constructing component
pieces or supplying the subcomponent equipment must be an Aramco approved
Supplier (for example all valves, pumps, instruments and any other component pieces of
a final product must be from Saudi Aramco approved Suppliers). The Manufacturer can
be either (1) the owner of the brand name of the equipment or (2) a licensee that has a
license agreement to construct this equipment under the direction of the Approved
Supplier (the Approved Supplier is responsible to guarantee this equipment as if they
had constructed it themselves).

SAMSS: “Saudi Aramco Materials System Specification”

SAP: The Saudi Aramco corporate computer system that includes description of the
wastewater treatment equipment commodities and List of currently approved
manufacturers.

Supplier: The person/company, etc., who is responsible to provide the equipment to


Saudi Aramco.

5 General

5.1 Procurement of a product made by a manufacturer not listed as an approved


manufacturer in Saudi Aramco SAP system is not allowed without approval.
Requests for approval of an alternate manufacturer must be supported by
documentation identifying how the alternate manufacturer would better serve
Saudi Aramco over the approved manufacturers.
Commentary Note:

If the request to procure from an alternate manufacturer is not approved, the


approval authority is under no obligation to present the reasons for the refusal.

5.2 The manufacturer listings within Saudi Aramco SAP system should be
interpreted in the following manner:

5.2.1 Manufacturer listed without limitation: All products from the


manufacturer in the given category (9COM material and, if applicable,
SAMSS) are acceptable.

5.2.2 Manufacturer listed with a limitation: Only the product that meets the
limitation is acceptable. If noted as being manufactured “Under
License”, only products made under the terms of the license agreement
are acceptable.

5.2.3 Manufacturer listed with a specific location: Only products made in the
specific location(s) or area(s) are acceptable.

into the vessel to perform routine maintenance.

OILY WATER API SEPARATORS: Primary elevated rectangular tanks that separate
free oil from water by gravity and separates oily sludge and solids from water by chain

Saudi Aramco’s approved suppliers. The membranes shall be submerged membranes.
Cross flow membranes are not acceptable. The Design shall be as per SAES-A-104,

to introduce chlorine compounds, sodium hypochlorite, in liquid or solid forms to the
water or wastewater, generally for the purpose of disinfection, or chemical oxidation
and odor control. The unit shall include a day tank, metering pumps (including standby
pumps), piping, instrumentation, and local control panel that can automatically or
manually control the chlorine based on a dose set point or flow rate.

UNIT, WASTEWATER AERATION (DIFFUSERS): Air Diffusers also known as
bubble diffusers used for the addition of oxygen to wastewater in the lower part at the
aeration tanks or basins needed for the biological treatment of wastewater. Materials
of construction shall be appropriate for the salinity of the wastewater being treated.
Only coarse bubble diffusers are acceptable for use in Saudi Aramco because of the
high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) wastewater and the carbonate sand that is mixed

with all wastewater in Saudi Arabia. Other types of diffusers shall be reviewed in a
case by case uses. Approval of alternative diffusers shall be prepared and submitted to
the General Supervisor, Environmental Engineering Division (EED) for approval.
A letter of approval, signed by the General Supervisor, EED, shall be included as an
attachment to the project specifications.

WASTEWATER DISINFECTION-ELECTROLYSIS: Seawater electrochlorination
systems produce disinfecting agent sodium hypochlorite from seawater due to an
electric current being passed through the water for marine and offshore applications.

WASTEWATER FLOW DISTRIBUTION DEVICES: Normally, concrete splitter
boxes that include Downward Opening Weir Gates to distribute the wastewater flow
into downstream wastewater equipment placed in parallel. Downward Opening Weir
Gates are used for flow and/or level control in applications where water flows over the
gate. Downward Opening Weir Gates have a reinforced slide and are solidly built in
one piece for easy installation.

WASTEWATER ROTATING BIOLOGICAL CONTACTOR: A Rotating Biological
Contactor (RBC) is an attached growth, aerobic, biological wastewater treatment
process. An RBC consists of a series of closely spaced circular disks that are
submerged in wastewater and rotated through it with a mechanical drive. As the RBC
disks rotate out of the wastewater, aeration is accomplished by exposure to the
atmosphere. Wastewater flows down through the disks where biological treatment and
solids sloughing occurs.

Equipment Description: WASTEWATER SLUICE GATES

Specification: SAES-A-104
WASTEWATER SLUICE GATES: A sluice gate is a valve used at the end of a pipe
line or to cover an opening in a wall and is not an in-line valve. Sluice gates are raised
and lowered by means of a stem or a rod using a manually operated screw stem hoist, an
electrically driven screw stem hoist or a hydraulic cylinder. Sluice gates are mounted to
a pipe flange, to a wall casting or thimble embedded in the concrete. Sluice gates are
not normally used in open channels where slide gates are normally used for seating flow
conditions. Slide gates are not acceptable for use in tank walls and cannot be
substituted for sluice gates.
