Gina Lopez, a Filipino environmentalist and philanthropist, served as Secretary of the Philippines' Department

of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Chairperson of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission.
She was known for pioneering 'corporate social responsibility', a business model that allows companies to be
socially accountable. Born in 1953, Gina attended Assumption College and Newton College of the Sacred Heart
in Boston, and earned her master's degree in Development Management from the Asian Institute of
Management. After returning to the Philippines, she initiated corporate social responsibility programs, including
Bantay Bata 163, a child welfare program, and Bantay Kalikasan, ABS CBN Lingkod Kapamilya's
environmental arm. Gina also produced educational programs, receiving the UNESCO Kalinga Award. She was
the Vice Chairperson of ABS CBN Bayan Foundation, a social development institution, and chairman of the
Emeritus of Southeast Asian Children's Television. Gina was diagnosed with brain cancer and died of multiple
organ failure in 2019.
