The value inside the value box refers to the resistance/ capacitance of the voltage divider that is
located inside the high voltage area. It is possible to change the value as long as the desired value is
within the minimum and maximum value that is displayed on the left and right side, respectively, of
the desired value. The users should bear in mind that changing these values do not change any
physical configurations, it only affects the scaling in the software.

Default Button
If the user would like to reset the values to its default after a change has been made the default
button is clicked.

HV9104 High Voltage & Data Acquisition Software

Park Check Box

If the Park check box is checked when the Main Input button is in the off position the
autotransformer will drive down to its zero position.

Override Check Box

One of the conditions to be able to energize the high voltage transformer is that the autotransformer
need to be in its zero position. Checking the Override check box makes it possible to override this
condition.

Main Input Button

The Main Input button opens and closes the input contactor. Only when the button is in the ON
position is it possible to get the input voltage values.

Regulating Output Button

The Regulating Output button opens and closes the output contactor and thus makes it possible to
energize the high voltage transformer(s). However, it is only possible to close the output contactor if
the following conditions are fulfilled:

 Emergency Stop must be unaffected and Key switch in the 1 position

 Autotransformer is at the zero position or the override check box is checked
 The discharge rod must be placed at its correct place
 The door to the high voltage are must be closed
 The input contactor must be closed
 The overcurrent relay must not be tripped
 The bimetallic relay must not be tripped

2.3.6 Voltage Input Control Panel

2.4 Run Experiment Tab

Under the Run Experiment tab the user finds the standardized high voltage tests. In the current
version of the software both withstand and disruptive discharge voltage tests can be automatically
performed on different test objects with all three voltage types.

2.4.1 Test Type Panel

In the Test Type panel the user can select the type of test to be perfromed and select the type of
voltage to be used. The panel consists of two radiobuttons and a list box.

Test Type Radio Buttons

With the radio buttons the user can select the type of test to be performed. In the current version
there are two types; withstand and disruptive discharge voltage test.

2.4.2 Voltage Output Panels

The three different voltage output panels gives feedback about the actual voltage and are the same
as the panels described in 2.3.2, 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 respectively.

11

2.4.3 Test Duration Panel

The Test Duration panel contains two input boxes for user-defined values related to the temporal
aspects of the high voltage test.

Duration Value Box

Relevant to AC and DC Withstand tests only, this value represents the length of time that high
voltage must be applied to a test object without a flashover or breakdown occurring before the test
object can be deemed to have passed the test. Appropriate Withstand Testing duration values can be
found in the relevant testing standards for the particular component type undergoing the test.

Sample Rate Value Box

This value defines the rate at which measurements of the high voltage value should be recorded and
presented in the diagram during the course of the high voltage test.

2.4.4 Test Voltage Panel

The Test Voltage panel is used for defining the level of voltage to be applied to the test object.

Voltage Level Value Box

This is the target voltage value, entered in kilovolts. For Disruptive Discharge testing, the test voltage
level is set to the maximum possible value for the high voltage setup defined on the setup page.

Tolerance Value Box

The tolerance value applies to the control of the test duration timer. The voltage level will never be
regulated to exactly the level given in the Voltage Level Value box described above. Therefore we
must define an acceptable tolerance level in percent at which the timer is allowed to start.

12
HV9104 High Voltage & Data Acquisition Software

2.4.5 Test Control Panel

The test control panel is used to start/stop/abort tests and to display the acquired data in real-time.

Start Button
The start button is used to begin the automated test sequence. The test sequence is the followed,
according the user-defined parameters set previously.

Time Label
Depending on the type of test selected, the time label can show either the user-defined sample rate
or in the case of a withstand test, the actual elapsed time once the voltage has reached the target
test voltage level.

Voltage Label
The voltage label can displays the maximum voltage level reached during the test. At breakdown
conditions, the operator can then see the value of the high voltage at the occurrence of the
breakdown.

Status Label
The status label provides information about the course of automation during an ongoing test. At the
completion of the test, the status will be presented as a test result summary of Pass, Fail or Void.

Abort Button
The abort button is used to cancel an ongoing test. The voltage will then be lowered back to zero and
the power to the HV setup disconnected. An aborted test will show a Void status and all relevant
parameters will be reset.

13

2.4.6 Report Info Panel

After a test object has undergone a test, results and data can be saved and printed in 2 different
formats.

Text Fields
These are used to provide any relevant information about the test situation and the component that
has been tested.

Create Report Button

Create Report saves the relevant results data to pdf file, including the diagram image, temporal
parameters, voltage information and final status.

Export Values Button

Export values is used to create a Comma Separated Value file including all curve-form data. This
allows the user to import the curve information into a spreadsheet program for further analysis.
Text field information is also included in this file.

14
HV9104 High Voltage & Data Acquisition Software
