RNA interference (RNAi) for pest control in

oilseed rape (Brassica napus)

Your task:
The department of Plant Protection (Estonian University of Life Sciences) in collaboration with
the laboratory of Agrozoology at the Department of Plants and Crops (Ghent University) is
looking for a researcher to work in a project (2023-2027) on the use of dsRNA in insect pest
control in oilseed rape. The candidate will conduct research on the identification of RNAi
targets, evaluation of RNAi efficacy, and investigation of nanoformulations for pest control in
oilseed rape, in line with the project objectives and hypotheses.
The candidate will employ a wide range of molecular tools, including formulations, microscopy
and gene cloning, to investigate RNAi against the insect pest. In addition, the candidate will
present the research findings at conferences, workshops, and other relevant events and
prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

What we are looking for:

- The candidate should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology,
entomology, agricultural sciences, biology, or a related field
- The candidate should be comfortable working with insects
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, insect rearing and handling,
bioinformatics, statistics or nanoparticle formulation are an advantage
- The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills in English,
with the ability to present research findings at conferences and in peer-reviewed
publications.
- The candidate should be highly motivated and independent, with a strong interest in
agricultural pest control and RNAi technology. Should have excellent problem-solving
