Nations YOUTH INITIATIVE
In 2022, seven regional youth consultations across the
globe culminated in the Youth Declaration, a collaborative
document shaped by half a million young voices from 170
countries demanding that youth are recognized as
cocreators of the educational transformation required in
our times. To put forward the recommendations and
requests in the Declaration, the United Nations launched
the Global Youth Initiative, a groundbreaking, multi-
stakeholder global effort that aims to ensure meaningful
youth engagement and leadership in education
policymaking.
By systematically addressing obstacles to youth
participation and leveraging the strengths of key partners,
the initiative seeks to mobilize resources and create a more
inclusive educational landscape. The GYI is based on the
premise that when youth are empowered, have access to
adequate technical and financial resources, and are offered

opportunities to engage meaningfully in decision-making
processes, we will witness a youth-led transformation of
education that will help ensure that national and global
commitments from the Transforming Education Summit
(TES) and the Youth Declaration are effectively translated
into action.
Future Perspectives in partnership with UNESCO IESALC,
who leads one of the capacity building components of the
Global Youth Initiative (GYI), will ensure the capacity of
youth and students, especially the most marginalized, is
strengthened to enable them to become agents of change in
transforming education in their specific national contexts
through the “Innovation to Transform Education Training”
(ITET). This will be the first cohort of ITET, selecting 50
young innovators from Nigeria to attend a five-day on-site
training in November 2023.
As part of ITET, UNESCO IESALC's Better Innovation Better
Outcome (BIBO) Academy will equip young education
stakeholders with skills of innovation and policy and project
implementation necessary for supporting their initiatives to
innovate educational decisions and practices.
With the support of UNESCO IESALC, Future Perspectives'
objective is to foster a new generation of young leaders who
drive revolutionary change for the African continent.
Through the co-launch of the ITET, it aims to forge lasting
impact to champion education reform, propel advancements
in EdTech innovation, and provide solutions to Africa's
education challenges.
Building onto consultations with young Nigerian education
innovators and other key educational stakeholders, the
analysis of core skills and partnership conditions for youth to
be innovative agents of change in the Nigerian educational
system sustains the design of the ITET to provide evidence-
based training on three key areas:

APPLIED POLICY SKILLS PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Youth participants acquire applied policy skills,
enabling them to understand the national
policy ecosystem and meaningfully engage in
decision-making processes in the field of
education.
SKILLS
Youth participants develop project
management skills while reflecting about
their contextual situation, enabling them to
effectively plan, design and implement.

INNOVATION SKILLS
Youth participants are empowered to discover their own innovative
perspective on educational change, by training on creative problem-
solving techniques, critical thinking, entrepreneurial approaches to
address challenges in education.

By the end of ITET, all trainees will have experienced the complete six skillset trainings which include:

Future Perspectives adopts a facilitatory approach in
collaboration with key stakeholders in delivering Systemic,
Scalable and Sustainable Impact; therefore, the top ten
outstanding trainees will be provided ongoing support post
the training workshop to accelerate their innovative
solutions through mentorship and counselling with partners
from the private sector and academia.
In addition, all participants will pitch their initiatives or
current projects to an ITET Prize Committee at the
beginning and end of the training and the top five winners
will be awarded a financial prize.
All participants will receive certification of completion of
the training and will become members of the Future
Perspectives Network and Better Innovation Better
Outcome (BIBO) Network. At the end of the upskilling
training, young education stakeholders are expected to
launch new initiatives or advance current projects as agents
of innovation in their educational settings.

 PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

50 applicants will be selected for the capacity-

building training, targeting young representatives •

To be eligible, candidate must:
• Be a Nigerian Citizen.
• Be aged 18 – 35 years.
• Submit an idea or initial project on EdTech
Innovation to Transform Education.
Fall under one of the following categories:
Pre-service or in-service education stakeholder who is
currently studying at higher education institutions with
education-focused programs, OR
Interdisciplinary university student or practitioner who
has a crossover interest or projects on education, OR
Education practitioner at national, provincial, and local
levels, OR
Youth leader from major youth organizations in Nigeria
based at higher education.

Young education stakeholders whose work contributes to transforming any of the following education sectors
are encouraged to apply: Early Child Development, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Higher
Education, Technical and Vocational Training and Education and Informal Learning.

SELECTION CRITERIA
We are looking for a diverse group of enthusiastic young individuals who embody a profound commitment to transforming
education in Nigeria and Africa. Inclusiveness and diversity are core principles of ITET, seeking individuals that can address
different educational challenges with a context-sensitive and evidence-based approach. Your application should convey what is
unique about you and your story in education, while explaining your commitment to the collective endeavor of transforming
education. Please, make sure that your submission can cover the following aspects:

sector. Your description of your EdTech innovation makes a clear statement of current
and possible further impacts to drive meaningful change in education

it's harnessing digital tools or exploring cutting-edge EdTech innovations, you have a
keen interest in leveraging technology for educational progress. You value

PLURALISM ASSESSMENT
Explore the complexities of cultural, social, and political diversity and develop practical skills to assess pluralism
in education policies, fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments. Promote the connections
between the local and the global, with the enhancement of civic values, social responsibility, and global
citizenship.

PROJECT CYCLE AND PROJECT PLANNING

Acquire essential insights into the project cycle, get in touch with tools and techniques for project planning and
be equipped with the skills needed to lead successful education initiatives with a systematic yet contextualized
approach.

DIGITAL SKILLS
Leverage basic digital skills for the educational sector and manage technology innovation effectively for
transformative education practices. Embrace a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to technology, that relies
on collaboration and continuous learning.

EVIDENCE-BASED SKILLS
Immerse in evidence-based practices, learning how to gather, analyze, and apply data to drive informed
