PMP 450 Series System Release Information 4

PMP 450 Series System Release 22.1
This document provides information about PMP 450 platform series System Release 22.1.

System Release 22.1 primarily focuses on bug fixes. It also introduces new features such as SM Spectrum
Inquiry results in CBRS channel hunting algorithms and the Elimination of lost downlink slots by running
the 450m scheduler in the previous frame.

Software updates for Cambium Networks products are available at

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files.

Features introduced in System Release 22.1

System Release 21.1 supports the following new features:

l SM Spectrum inquiry results in CBRS Channel hunting algorithm

l Eliminating lost downlink slots by running 450m scheduler in the previous frame

Attention

First upgrade Subscriber Modules (SMs) to System Release 20.0 or later version and then
upgrade the AP. Otherwise, SMs will connect but at a maximum modulation rate of 2X MIMO-
B until both sides are running on System Release 20.0 or later version.

SM Spectrum inquiry results in CBRS Channel hunting algorithm

One of the key enhancements in BETA-3 is an improved channel selection process. In the previous CBRS
code, when determining an alternate channel for moving the sector due to DPA suspensions or grant
terminations impacting the AP or a percentage of the SMs, the selection was solely based on the AP's
channel conditions and the SAS's perspective. However, with the introduction of this new feature, the
channel selection now takes into account the SAS's view of each SM as well. This addition ensures a more
refined and effective choice of alternate channels, leading to better overall channel selection outcomes.

Eliminating lost downlink slots by running 450m scheduler in the

previous frame
This feature ensures that the 450m scheduler runs in the preceding frame to eliminate any lost downlink
slots. In certain scenarios, this improves downlink throughput.

Additional enhancements in System Release 22.1
Additional enhancements in system release 22.1 are listed in below table:

band.

All SM CPY-18449 Some SMs running the 22.1 BETA-3 software version are unable to establish
types a connection with cnMaestro.

Embedded software
Before upgrading to System Release 22.1, read the Upgrading Software section. System Release 22.1 may
be installed via CNUT (Canopy Network Updater Tool) using the following software packages:

l CANOPY22_1BUILDOFFICIAL_PXP45x_S.pkg3

l Or via cnMaestro: CANOPY_22.1.tar.gz

Upgrading software
Use version 4.13.3 of the Canopy Network Updater Tool (CNUT) to upgrade to Release 22.1.

CNUT 4.13.3 supports legacy Cambium products.

CNUT and its release notes can be downloaded from the Cambium Networks support website:
https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/cnut/

Note

As of Software Release 16.2 and later, CNUT AutoUpdate using PMP 450 AP as the File
Server no longer supports update of 450b and 450i SMs. Use cnMaestro or CNUT HTTP File
Server option to upgrade these SMs.

System Release 20.0 introduces support for TLS v1.2 and v1.3. TLS v1.1 is no longer
supported. CNUT 4.13.3 supports TLS v1.1 only and cannot upgrade PMP/PTP devices
running 20.0 or later, that are configured for HTTPS only web access.

Note

From Software Release 22.1 onwards, Cambium advises against using CNUT with the AP as a
file server due to the increasing image sizes and the limited RAM capacity on the devices.

Network Management
Wireless Manager v4.5.6 may be used to manage Cambium PMP networks, including managing the
RADIUS features. For additional information, see the Wireless Manager website at:

http://www.cambiumnetworks.com/products/management-tools/wireless-manager

A RADIUS dictionary file is available from the software site:

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/pmp450/

cnMaestro
Operators need 3.0.2 or later cnMaestro for full compatibility with the CBRS Management Tool, such as
live CBRS grant status updates to cnMaestro, and the request of new grants as multigrants from the tool.
However, conversions to multigrants for existing wide grants can be done with System Release 20.2 on
devices still onboarded to 3.0.0/3.0.1 cnMaestro software versions.

cnMaestro may also be used to manage Cambium devices. Additionally, cnMaestro is required if using the
CBRS feature. See the cnMaestro release notes for more information. For additional information, see the
cnMaestro website at:

http://www.cambiumnetworks.com/products/software-tools/cnmaestro.

Note

A cnMaestro feature called cnMaestro X feature Assists is introduced in the 4th quarter of
2022. It identifies sectors with potential security concerns and encourages operators to
disable HTTP (using HTTPS only) and telnet access, among other parameters. This approach
works well for PMP System Release 20.0 and later versions. However, if an operator
downgrades their radios to versions older than System Release 20.0, they risk losing
management access to those radios. This is because not all browsers support the TLS
version 1.0 used by System Release 16.x software by default. Cambium advises operators
who need to downgrade their radios to enable HTTP on those radios via the Configuration -
> Security page before downgrading. If an operator mistakenly downgrades without re-
enabling HTTP access and loses management access, there are two possible solutions. One
option is to configure Mozilla Firefox with security.tls.version.min set to 1. Another option is
to raise a support ticket with Cambium for assistance.

Canopy MIB
The Cambium Enterprise MIB (Management Information Base) consists of 7 MIB definition files and
supports SNMP access to Canopy modules. The MIB files are available for download from:

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/pmp450/

PMP 450 Series System Release 22.1 12

MIB files are used by Network Management Systems and Element Management Systems, such as the
Wireless Manager system to support a host of surveillance, monitoring, control, and operational tasks.

If you are using an SNMP network management system (NMS) or element management system (EMS)
other than Wireless Manager: Load the MIBs per the instructions for your NMS or EMS.

Note

When loading the MIB files:

1. First, load the standard MIB files

2. Then, load the radio specific MIB files

Some NMSs are not sensitive to order, but some require a specific loading order to build a MIB tree.
Loading in the recommended order avoids these issues.
