Each group member investigated multiple aspects under the broad theme of Medical Issues.
These topics included: Renal failure, Epilepsy, Eating disorders, Social anxiety and Depression.
Given the collective corporation of the group, selection of artefacts became fairly effortless.

In total, there were 15 artefacts which were thoroughly examined by every group member. They
then voted for 3 suitable pieces which best expressed all the topics discussed under our broad
theme. The top 3 most voted pieces were selected and the chosen artefacts were: a diary, a poem
and a song ( Refer to Appendix II ) which we believed represented all topics under Medical
Issues.

To engage participation of all members each person wrote a personal draft followed by
attendance at a zoom meeting where all drafts and ideas were incorporated into one report.

The main issue in the diary entitled “I miss my eating disorder” by Sincerely You (2020) was the
attempt to gain control over one's life and oneself and feel a sense of validation. This however,
remained a challenge as it became harder to avoid old habits.

The main issue , in the poem "Epilepsy: An Inevitable Thief," by Desmond Makatu (2017) was
the great effects epilepsy has on its victims since the disease is one which affects persons of all
ages, while also resulting in physical and emotional trauma. Some victims even believe that
death is the only way out.

Lastly, was the song, “-1-800-273-8255” by Logic, Alessia Cara, and Khaild (2017). According
to the artists, the main issue was an individual’s experience of emotional pain and suffering with
the inability to express such feelings which eventually results in the person’s further struggle
with suicidal thoughts.

In the final analysis, our group attained a deeper understanding of one's thoughts and effects that
exhaustion of such thoughts can have on those who struggle with such illnesses. To expand, the
group was educated on the long-term and short-term effects of each individual topic as well as
some of the many treatments available.
