5. Global Management and Leadership

5.1 Incentives and Rewards used in the main companies in the country
We must bear in mind that Nigeria is currently the largest and most important economy
in all of Africa. As additional data, its GDP grew by an average of 3.8%. This was due
to the fact that companies in the country promote new strategies in their companies,
such as the capacity of each of their workers, being a country that seeks to grow on a
day-to-day basis. They use a FIDA strategy that covers the period from 2017 to 2023.
Their goal is mainly to grow their economy in order to benefit their entire population in
general, companies have two main objectives:

• Strengthen the companies with the best pay and hire suitable people at both the
state and community levels to collaborate with the main value companies in the
country.
• Advance towards economic and financial inclusion among the workers of each
company so that young people can feel much more interested in wanting to
advance.
An example of a company that is one of the leading technology companies for the
country of Nigeria is Flutterware. According to the Atlanticride report (2020), what
most influences the company, which is one of the best online banking platforms in
Nigeria, is its own slogan: "Young people will grow up" which refers to the fact that it is
one of the companies with better treatment towards young people who have a view to
growing with them, offering them bonuses and first-class treatment. All this so that they
can transmit it to their clients. This company also accepts inequality in order to preserve
social harmony and give equal opportunities to everyone, thus creating a very
comfortable work environment.

Nigerian companies create many incentives and rewards for their employees related
to their participation and how their attitudes are both inside and outside the companies
in order to ensure their quality.
They have three strategic priorities:

• Promote growth among colleagues by forming teams and creating productive

improvements in order to increase labor union.
• Strengthen and manage correctly, incorporating the issue of gender equality and
greater awareness in all companies so as not to create any type of internal
conflict.
• Lastly, as Nigeria has an egalitarian culture they mainly seek the participation of
each of their employees in their respective companies to determine the best ways
to meet all objectives. For all to benefit
Nigerian companies have great incentives for their workers and prizes as mentioned
in the bonuses and pay for good quality work of young people given by Flutterwave
company. Finally, by promoting technologies and research activities, companies enjoy a
20% tax credit for the investment of their respective expenses if they are justified in the
best way in order to propose new forms of work and objectives of the companies.
5.2 The main companies in the country and what kind of leadership they practice.
According to Servimedia (2022), Nigeria increases its leadership in oil imports with
Spain and thanks to this its profits increase by 5.6%. This was due to the fact that
before, Nigerian companies did not have good corporate leaders to set correct objectives
that could bring benefits. However, the leaders of the different companies now work
with different countries, so understanding their cultures and ways of thinking is very
crucial for success. Taking into account that Nigeria is located on the African continent
where it has many social, economic and cultural differences. For all this, the leaders'
main mission is to have the ability to understand and respect all the values and styles of
culture in order to be able to sign contracts with other companies abroad.
Today the leaders of Nigerian oil and technology companies must have the main
ability to inspire their employees so that they feel confident in their actions. In addition
to this, its incorporated strategy of "corporate citizenship" means that both leaders and
employees can understand each other and seek together a single objective that brings the
maximum possible profits. For this reason, the characteristics of a leader in Nigerian
companies are to understand and, above all, to respect the ways of thinking of their
employees.
Nigeria is experiencing clear economic growth and this is demonstrated by the
leadership of its company ranked number 1, Cemento Dangote, since they have Leaders
who have complete knowledge of the different areas of the company and this serves as a
perfect connection between their employees to go in one direction and to be able to
create the best strategies that can be adopted to the environment that they may be facing.
In addition, the company has international managers who are dedicated solely to closing
contracts with other countries, they have full knowledge of the cultures to which they
are the most qualified, bringing security and calm to the company in order to have
allies. The aforementioned company has a capitalization of approximately 5.19 million
dollars, according to an investigation by the Victormochere page (2022).
The aforementioned company is led by Aiko Dangote, a successful businessman
whose leadership style centers around being autocratic and energetic. These two
mentioned points help you a lot to have the ability to motivate your employees and in
turn have a correct decision making in the company. In addition, having a high
negotiation skill because in an interview for ORH (2021), he clarifies that knowing the
beliefs and cultures of other countries gives you a good start in negotiations to be able to
close a correctly raised agreement between both sides.

What are the expectations of the leader in the chosen country?

According to Chinchilla (2014), leadership is a process where various factors such as

charisma, different forms of communication can intervene, where the leader who is the
representative person has the duty to respond to these qualities and achieve an objective
goal of the company. The organizational culture in Nigeria must always go hand in hand
with the leadership exercised, since the vast majority of companies have many foreign
collaborations and deals, therefore understanding it is necessary.
“… Leadership can be defined as a natural process of influence that occurs between a
person –The leader- and his followers. In addition, they agree that this process of
influence can be explained based on certain characteristics and behaviors of the leader,
by perceptions or attributions on the part of the followers, and by the context in which
said process occurs." (Castro, 2003)
According to a report by El País (2022), Nigerian leaders must have 3 main dimensions
of leadership, which are the following.

• Charismatic leadership

Mainly, this dimension must be taken into account for the reason that it is a country
where collaboration among its members is important. The leaders must inspire a lot of
confidence to promote them in a very energetic way. This would only be possible if the
leader also has one of the six competencies which is empathy in order to understand the
dialogue and see the needs of their employees in order to take action. The main
characteristics of this dimension are to take into account the vision of the future,
decision-making, passion and above all inspiration.

• participative leadership

In the table of the six dimensions, Nigeria has a high score of a total of 5.65, being the
second most important that the leaders of the different companies must have in order to
be elected. It is based mainly on the inclusion of the ideas of the employees to make a
decision and this can benefit everyone equally. This is very important because in
Nigeria equal treatment is implemented a lot and with this to be able to develop new
skills with which they can create a comfortable work environment for everyone.
According to Victormochere's research (2022), this dimension is used by the leader of
the Cemento Dangote company, who is Aiko Dangote, who involves all his employees
to have a pleasant work environment, this is reflected in his speed in the processes and
in the the profits of the company
• Human oriented leadership

This dimension for Nigerian companies is highly influenced and goes hand in hand with
the previous one, since companies currently seek to create success not only in profits
but also to build a relationship with their employees. The chosen leaders They must
have these characteristics primarily: Patience, tolerance and above all the sensitivity to
understand the problems. Here for Nigerian companies such as previously mentioned
Flutterware cares a lot about the tasks of young people and their schedules so that they
can be encouraged for a much more comfortable work culture.
Conclusion
In Nigeria there are 3 main dimensions of leadership which are charisma, participation
and human orientation whose central idea of both is precisely to respond correctly to the
organizational culture which the country develops in order to improve both companies
and grow the country. . Having a bad leader can cause a deterioration or a total
disorganization of the companies
