STEPS FOR DIGITIZATION

1 . Insert the map which you want to digitize, for that:-

i) From browse box select XYZ tiles

ii) Select, Open Street Map

iii) Zoom in the area which you want to digitize

2. Draw a circular catchment area, for that

i) Add new shape file with geometry type polygon

ii) Select toggle editing from toolbar

iii) Select add polygon feature

iv) Select circular shape and draw a catchment area.

3. Add new shape file with geometry type polygon and draw a polygon at the center of the catchment
area for locating the center of the catchment area.

3. Add three (3) new shape file with geometry type line.
4. Categorize files as :- i) Arterial

ii) Sub Arterial

iii) Collector Road

5. Add New fields in every shape files (ONE BY ONE) as:-

a) Length

b) Width

c) Fare /Km

d) Side walk Availability

e) Kerb Ramp Availability

6. In New shape file categorized as Arterial, trace the road to digitize for that:-

i) Select toggle editing from toolbar

ii) Select add Line feature.

iii) Start tracing all the Arterial road.

iv) After tracing right click and give a traced mark an ID.

v) Trace all the Arterial road and give them an ID

7. In New shape file categorized as Sub Arterial, trace the road to digitize for that:-

i) Select toggle editing from toolbar

ii) Select add Line feature.

iii) Start tracing all the Sub Arterial road.

iv) After tracing right click and give a traced mark an ID.

v) Trace all the sub Arterial road and give them an ID

8. In New shape file categorized as Collector, trace the road to digitize for that:-

i) Select toggle editing from toolbar

ii) Select add Line feature.

iii) Start tracing all the Collector road.

iv) After tracing right click and give a traced mark an ID.

v) Trace all the collector roads and give them an ID.

9. After giving ever traced mark an ID in different categories, insert data in different fields, for that:-

i) Select shape file and press right click to select (open attribute table)
 ii) To calculate length of the road:-

a) Select OPEN FIELD CALCULATOR from attribute table tool bar OR press Clt+I to open field
…………… … ….calculator .

b) Select UPDATE EXISTING FIELD

c) Select the LENGTH field

d) Select the geometry group in

 e) In geometry select $length and double click

f) Apply by clicking OK.

g) Every ID (traced road) length will be calculated.

iii) ADD all the Data according to the survey done on field.
10. Add data in every shape file’s field by same method as shown in step 9.

NOTE

1. Select different color for different shape file, for ease.

2. During tracing Zoom in to trace road properly.

3. Try to draw small segment for better accuracy in tracing the road.

4. Save progress in very frequent basis to keep the data save in case of software glitch.
