SURG0124 Research Methodologies and Transferable Skills (0.

5 Units)

Module Aims
The aim of this Module is to give basic training in transferable research skills; including methods
of research, critical analysis, writing/presentation, statistical analysis/interpretation,
epidemiology, experimental & project design. These are generic skills that are essential in all
forms of research, whether you are a Materials Chemist, a Performing Arts Medic, an Orthopaedic
Surgeon or a Physiotherapist.

In addition, it will explain what scientific method means, how it is used, progresses and is regulated,
the types of investigation available together with descriptions of the different ways in which it is
important and environments where it is practiced.

Module Practicalities
The module is taught during Term 1 on Tuesday afternoons from 2-5pm at the Bloomsbury Campus.
For the statistics component of this module there will be cluster room sessions for you to attend.
