Traumatic Brain Injury

treated with
Chinese Scalp Acupuncture
You've probably already visited the previous pages so you are "oriented" about Scalp
Acupuncture.

In regards to traumatic brain injury, I'm going to show you how it can address all the
different function deficits with great success that accompany and follow, many times
for long years, the initial injury

The trauma is most frequently not a local area damage but a wide spread serious
deceleration axon or shear injury involving the entire brain. Hopefully the brain stem
is spared and the vital functions will recover so your loved one can leave the
Intensive Care department shortly.

While in coma...

...even if they are still "locked in", their perception (on a subconscious level)is there,
they can hear you, so family support is very important. You can read novels,
playmusic... Armored with a kindle device (modern technology is amazing) you don't
even need to leave the bedside to get new material instantly.
Just keep on constantly stimulating...

even after the ICU phase... when rehab starts.

At this point do not forget to recruit a Scalp Acupuncture Doctor for the team along
with Physical,Physio, OT/PT, psychology therapy.

I am a western trained surgeon, did lots of trauma in Japan, Turkey, Hungary, and
US. It always devastated me the number of teenagers we saw presenting with
traumatic brain injury due to bike, car, diving, shoot out, and other accidents.
(depending on geography)

You can imaging my surprise when (still in Japan), working closely with
neurosurgeons, I have heard about a special acupuncture technique, Scalp
Acupuncture, that has been designed to treat CNS disorders including but obviously
not limited to traumatic brain injury.

Why is it a big deal?

Because Western Medicine, after the acute life-saving phase is over, does not have
too much to offer in order to facilitate the recovery period of traumatic
brain injury victims. Yet, the long term effects are devastating, lasting many years,
creating problems with work, study, every day living, interfering with family life.
MODERN MEDICINE

Modern neurosurgery embraced

with intensive therapy support
made incredible advances in
treating central nervous disasters,
stopping the intracranial bleeds,
evacuate the hemorrhage
and/orremove the damaged areas if
needed. The modern surgical
intensive care units are able to
provide the necessary life sustaining support while awaiting for the central nervous
system to recuperate so the patient can be weaned off from the meds and vents.

Despite of these terrific

accomplishments there is not too
much of what modern
traumasurgery and neurosurgery
can offer in the rehab phase of
central nervous damages.
The therapy is usually “wait and
see”, as my deeply respected
mentor and trauma teacher Dr. Lee
Miller, M.D. F.A.C.S., Chief
of Surgeryand Director of Trauma
Services at the Conemaugh Valley
MemorialMedical Center Level I
Trauma Center, Johnstown,
Pennsylvania used to say it(and
meant absolutely seriously); ”From here nothing more to do, let’s hurry up and
wait.”

We did everything possible what supportive therapy, Physical and Rehab Medicine,
Occupational and Physical Therapy, ancillary services could offer, yet, there was no
way to implement my favorite scalp acupuncture measures to affect the brain to
achieve faster recovery. The brain was left alone, yet given all the necessary support
to recover, on its own. Western Medicine only in Japan or China is implemented
parallel with Scalp Acupuncture therapy to facilitate the recovery process and later
the post concussion/contusion period to modify (regain and heal) brain function.

HOW CHINESE SCALP ACUPUNCTURE WORKS?

The scalp, overlapping the brain, has a special energetic influence on the underlying
neuro-anatomical brain cortex, ganglions, and stem. Not only that but it also
influences the spinal cord, and more, literary overseeing and supervising the whole
body. As such, while it’s theoretically and also practically possible to treat any body
and organ disease with scalp acupuncture, its applications remained mainly
designated to neurological disorders. The organ and other disorders will be usually
kept treated with meridian, “general acupuncture”.

Probably the reason is because a practitioner in training first learns “general

acupuncture” before s/he studies scalp acupuncture, not the other way around. So
s/he tends to continue applying the disharmony energy principles for treating
internal medicine disorders and when h/she learns scalp acupuncture, h/she’ll
restrain his/her scalp acupuncture knowledge to neurological disorders, and continue
his “general practice” with meridian acupuncture.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The appointment starts with a thorough neurological exam, establishing the lost
function(s), regardless of the cause. Every neurological brain function has a defined
neuro-anatomical representation on the cortex and this area corresponds with a
precise scalp area on the surface, found and localized by anatomical landmarks. So
we have a responsible scalp area to target with our needles, and stimulate them
manually or electrically.

This strange energetic influence between scalp and underlying cortex causes the
healing effect:

 Increase vascular flow

 Increase oxygenation
 Re-training the brain(other areas take over)
 Establish new synapses
 Regenerate neuron and axonal damage
 Repair myelin sheat damage lost due to axon/shear injury or anti-
inflamatory processes(like MS)

RESULTS OF CHINESE SCALP ACUPUNCTURE APPLICATIONS...

 Inconsolable headaches due to traumatic brain injury are completely gone
in 70% of the patients at the time of the firsttreatment.
 70% of the patients' function deficit responds and improves at least 70%
at the first visit, and continues improving.
 There is a small percentage of patients who does not respond for certain
reasons but pain is always modifiable.

SUMMARY

Chinese Scalp Acupuncture is an excellent treatment modality considering that these

patients have already tried everything, chiropractor, massage, neurobehavioral
modifications, physical medicine, physical therapy, they are on a galore of
psychoactive drugs, and so on.

I have compiled a list of prominent practitioners on the right column for you to
contact if you happen to live close to that area. Obviously if you’re living in the
Western Pennsylvania area, or would like to fly in to Johnstown and stay at the
airport hotel for 5 days, we are offering special 5 days treatment sessions…
…more on this link will be set up soon.

Interim, should you have any further more specific question, please feel free to
contact us.

I hope I managed to spark your interest to consider trying scalp acupuncture for
traumatic brain injury, and if you know anyone who suffers from this or other
nervous system disorders, please…

…spread the word.
