SPEECH

Purposive Communication

With today’s health problem, how can your chosen career help the country in combating

CoViD-19?

‘’If you don’t learn how to control your thoughts, you will never learn to control

your behavior.’’

Good to you all! As a student of Bachelor of Science in Psychology, I take a

stand to help my fellow Filipinos to fight this CoViD-19 virus by maintaining their healthy

mentality and resiliency. My ability to describe, to predict and to control, are going to be

essential in helping to cope up with the problem by using inspirational words, and

professional advices, in general. People nowadays are so expose in using social media

sites, sites that can highly affect a person or a user’s brain. Therefore, social media will

become my very tool in solving this problem. Billions of people must be using social

media sites right now. So in this case, I will use the very same thing to dig deeper to

their gadgets towards their conscience to give them positive mindset and thoughts.

Based on my observation, an enthusiastic person waking up in the morning, and

immediately opening his phone, just to receive a hoax or a bad news in the internet, it

instantly changed that jolly person’s mood throughout the day. Making it dry and

grumpy, that now affects the people around him, and the whole society. We are like

robots, unconsciously tapping our phones. It’s a mass act. An unwanted actions. We

are not fully aware of our movements. Can you imagine? People are so tense.

Pressured about this issue. I’m worried for them, because the mental pressure might kill
us, not the virus itself. People are so uptight causing them to malfunction. Such as panic

buying, hoarding, posting FAKE news. And as a leader, I’ll use my power to influence

people to have the right mindset. To think, to act, and to use those powerful words

accordingly. To correct those mislead minds. I believe that this problem is most likely

caused by anxiety disorder. A panic disorder, an obsessive- compulsive disorder that

causes people to make a bad situation, even worse. Influence is very vital as it comes

from a person’s mind, processing to enact and affecting his/her attitude. I will do the

best I can by focusing on my strengths to help the people in need.

And by ending this speech, I will leave an advice, there are things that are

beyond our control, partially controlled, and things we can fully control. As a highly

intellectual human being, we must focus on the things that we can fully control,

especially ourselves, our reactions, and most importantly, our mind.
