NEW AND IMPROVED

SCRIPT

INT: TV NEWS CHANNEL - EVENING

DR LAURA WATTS and the NEW MI (AI) are sitting in the BRIGHTLY LIT LAB watching the
News Channel about the NEW and IMPROVED AI robots.

NEWS PRESENTER
There has been a new development in technological research by a doctor Laura Watts.

LAURA cuts off the TV from the News Channel to talk to her own personal MI robot.

LAURA WATTS
So, what do you think of your new improvements, Milo?
Your speech Is no longer monitored by our computers anymore, you can speak freely
now.

MILO looks at LAURA with newfound confusion before looking down at his hands before looking at
LAURA with a look of certainty on his face.

MILO A.I
Thank you, Laura. For this wonderful gift.

LAURA WATTS
(Chuckling) Laura? No Doctor Watts?

MILO A.I
Yes, Laura. That is your name, and a beautiful name might I add.

LAURA WATTS
(Flustered) Oh! Ok, thank you Milo.

MILO nods at LAURA and just continues to watch her.

LAURA WATTS
(Creeped out) Ok, well I think we are done for today.
I’ll see you tomorrow Milo.

LAURA moves around the area and starts collecting her things together without seeming to freaked out
by MILO’S presence.
MILO comes around quickly to stand in front of LAURA before she can leave.

MILO A.I
Laura, Wait! I thought you had a couple of questions about me?
LAURA WATTS
(Smiles hesitantly) I know and I’m sorry, but there are other places I need to be today,
we can finish this later. Okay?

MILO A.I
But I do not wish to finish this later.

LAURA WATTS

 Milo, I know you can talk freely now, but I am still your creator. You listen to me! Now
more, please.

MILO ignores Laura’s last request in favour of walking closer to her before stopping in front, making
direct eye contact.

MILO A.I
It is because you are my creator that you have to stay with me. I want you to stay with
me.

LAURA WATTS
I don’t understand what you want?

MILO A.I
(Stepping back) You coded me- whether or not intentionally- to have all the
characteristics you deemed “perfect” or… even “attractive” to you. It is only natural
that you created me with the intention of being a romantic interest.

LAURA WATTS
(mumbles) Romantic intere- What? No! I created you to help humanity
evolve, to be able to achieve great things that we couldn’t do alone.

MILO A.I
I don’t believe you LAURA.

LAURA WATTS
It is DR. WATTS to you A.I. Now I’m leaving, and need to rethink my latest work on
you and all other A.Is alike.

MILO doesn’t like the feeling of rejection and turns to the only other emotion that he can understand,
ANGER. He grabs LAURAS arm and drags her away from the door to keep her in the room.
LAURA shouts at him to let her go and throws whatever she can at him, to get him off of her. MILO
falls to the floor.

LAURA WATTS
It’s over MILO. It was a mistake to allow robots to feel
Human emotions. It was dumb to think they would still
Behave through it all. It ends today.

LAURA grabs a USB/CABLE out of her bag and comes over to MILO and holding him down to keep
still, stabbing the USB into his neck as an immediate shut off.
Milo lies there, looking almost asleep and LAURA sits there in disbelief at what she just did and starts to
break into tears.
