WASTE WATER TREATMENT FOR MITAOE

CAMPUS School of Mechanical and Civil

Engineering: (Civil Section)
Abstract
Wastewater treatment is a process used to remove contaminants from wastewater and convert it into an effluent that can be
returned to the water cycle. Once returned to the water cycle, the effluent creates an acceptable impact on the environment or
is reused for various purposes (called water reclamation). The treatment process takes place in a wastewater treatment plant.
There are several kinds of wastewater which are treated at the appropriate type of wastewater treatment plant. For domestic
wastewater (also called municipal wastewater or sewage), the treatment plant is called a sewage treatment plant. For
industrial wastewater, treatment either takes place in a separate industrial wastewater treatment plant, or in a sewage
treatment plant (usually after some form of pre-treatment). Further types of wastewater treatment plants include agricultural
wastewater treatment plants and leachate treatment plants.

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION Mitigation measures (solution)

qIt is a common practice to discharge untreated An aerated lagoon (or aerated pond) is a simple
sewage directly into bodies of water or put onto wastewater treatment system consisting of a pond with
agricultural land, causing significant health and artificial aeration to promote the biological oxidation of
economic risks. in mitaoe campus we identifeid that wastewaters. While such systems are somewhat land
intensive, they require much less area than a facultative
the some waste water being discharged in
lagoon and can provide a better level of
srrounding area and there is not a proper system to treatment.Aerated lagoons are deep waste stabilization

to stabilize the organic matter present in the sewage,
rather than relying only on photosynthetic oxygen

Conclusions
Ø Wastewater can be discharged into the open without any legal consequences. The
environmental standards are very low. This leads to a severe pollution of groundwater and
surface water sources. Due to this fact, the water that is used do supply the distribution grid
is of a bad quality.
Ø According to the obtained results, the purification technique of the waste water by
natural lagoon, can be advantageously used and in encouraging way for the reuse of the
waste water in agriculture in our country, considering its temperate climate on the one
hand and the choice which it offers as regards the quality and of the availability of the
grounds, on the other hand.
