Meet these teenagers, who all like books

Leila

My favourite book is about a village in the middle of a forest. Nobody who

isn’t from that village ever goes there. The people who live there want their
life and their village to be a secret. They’re friends with all the animals, too,
even frogs! I’d love to go to that village, but nobody knows where it is! I’m
going to read the book again, I think.

Fran

My favourite book tells the story of a girl’s life, from the time she’s very
small until she’s a teenager. When she’s small, her family live in a big
house in the countryside, then they move to a flat in the city. She loves the
city, but she sometimes misses her old life, too. When I finished the book, I
went back to the first page and started it again!

Jack

My favourite book’s about a boy who goes camping with his older brother
in the mountains. One day, they see an absolutely enormous snake which is
as big as a car! They run away really fast! I don’t like thinking about that
snake! But I love the book because it’s so exciting. I was glad I wasn’t in the
mountains with them when I was reading it, but safe at home!

PART 6 (5 points)
Read the article about a trip into a rainforest and the questions below.
For each question, circle the correct letter A, B or C.

Toni’s trip into the rainforest

Last summer, I went on holiday with my family to Costa Rica, in Central America. One day, after
an early breakfast in our hotel, we got on a bus with two other families and drove to a national
park. When we arrived, our guide, Bernardo, was waiting for us all and took us into the rainforest.

We walked for an hour and like in films about the rainforest, there was howling, buzzing and
chirping everywhere. It was my first trip anywhere so amazing and I couldn’t stop smiling! Some
people asked about dangerous animals, but Bernardo said that there weren’t any near us.
Bernardo showed us some plants and trees which are used to produce medicines. He also told us
about the way that rainforests reduce greenhouse gases, taking carbon dioxide from the air and
then releasing oxygen. That’s why they’re so important for everyone in the world.

Then, suddenly, Bernardo pointed at something in a tree. At first, I couldn’t see anything, but then,
I could just make out a sloth! And then, another tiny one! A mother and her baby were moving
extremely slowly towards the canopy. That was the most incredible thing that happened during
our trip.

On the bus back to the hotel, I felt a bit sad. But my parents had Bernardo’s email address, so we
could send him some photos after our holiday. I looked out of the bus window and I thought,
‘When I’m older, I’m going to be a scientist and study rainforest animals and plants!’

30. Who went into the rainforest with Bernardo?

A. two families
B. three families
C. only Toni’s family

31. How did Toni feel when they were walking in the rainforest?
A. surprised about the noise
B. excited about being there
C. worried about some of the animals

32. Bernardo explained

A. how rainforests help the planet.
B. how natural resources are disappearing.
C. how people make things in the rainforest.

33. What does Toni say about the sloths?

A. It was easy to see them.
B. They were coming down from a tree.
C. Seeing them was the best part of the day.

34. On the bus back to the hotel, Toni

A. decided something about the future.
B. sent pictures of the trip to Bernardo.
C. discovered more about the rainforest.
