TASK 3.

Short activity to do in class

"Exploring the World through CLIL"

Course: 4th-grade

Objective: To teach students about world geography, while simultaneously enhancing

their English language skills.

Materials Needed:

 A world map or globe.

 Pictures or images of famous landmarks and places around the world.
 A blank world map worksheet.
 Markers or colored pencils.

Instructions:

Introduction (Language Integration): Begin by discussing the concept of traveling with

the students in English. Ask questions like, "Have you ever traveled to another country?
What languages do people speak in different countries? What do you like to see and do
when you travel?"

Geography Exploration (Content Integration): Show the students a world map or globe
and point out different countries. Introduce a few famous landmarks and places from
various countries, such as the Eiffel Tower in France, the Great Wall of China, or the
Pyramids in Egypt. Explain where these landmarks are located on the map.

Interactive Activity (Language and Content Integration): Provide the students with
images or pictures of these landmarks and distribute a blank world map worksheet to
each student. Instruct them to label the map with the names of these landmarks and their
respective countries. Encourage them to use English to write down the names.

Discussion and Presentation (Language Integration): Once the students have completed
their maps, have them present their work in English. Each student can share one
landmark they labeled and provide a brief description of it. For example, "The Great Wall
of China is in China. It's very long and made of bricks."
Why It's CLIL:

This activity integrates content (geography and world landmarks) with language learning
(English). Students not only learn about different countries and famous places but also
practice their English language skills by discussing and labeling the map in English. CLIL
encourages active participation and engagement while promoting both language and
content acquisition. It's a holistic approach that combines language and subject matter
in a meaningful way, making it an ideal CLIL activity.
