Mobility The Netherlands – Monday 13th March 2023

Activity 1 – Introduction

Objectives:

- Getting to know each other and the different cultures.


- Speaking English amongst each other to communicate and work together.
- Incorporating the different cultures into decorating a part of a wooden globe and wooden
figures to make European citizens.
- Working together to make one end product per group. Every group has children from the
different countries: Latvia, Spain, Italy, Slovenia and The Netherlands.

Activity:

- After the general introduction of the countries and the teachers, we split the children into
different groups. In every group are children from different countries. We explain the activity
and emphasize that it is important they work together on one wooden part of a globe. They
need to discuss their own cultures by for example the colour of their flags, what their country
is famous for and what colour they think represents their country and why.
They then need to incorporate all these colours on the wooden part of the globe to make an
endproduct that represents all the cultures of the group.
Once they have decided how they want to colour their part of the globe, they will get paint
and work together to colour it.
- The teachers will walk around the room and help them.
Conclusion:

- After everyone has finished we discuss the endproducts and each group will explain the
colours they used and why they chose these colours to represent the different cultures and
countries of the group.

Activity 2 – Making Powerpoint presentations about The Netherlands and the difference in cultures.

Objectives:

- Making a PowerPoint presentation about what the children have learned during their stay in
The Netherlands.
- Working together in groups with children from different countries.
- Speaking English to communicate and work together.
- The children can show their new knowledge of The Netherlands and can compare this to
their own culture. What are the differences and similarities? What did they learn during this
mobility?
The presentations must meet the following requirements:

- Feature the photographs they took themselves during the tours.


- Information in their own words about Rotterdam and Kinderdijk.
- Comparisons to their own culture.
- Differences and similarities between the cultures.
- What they have learned this week.
- What they like best about The Netherlands.
The PowerPoint must meet the following technical requirements:

- Uploading their own photo’s in the presentation.


- Using different styles of slides.
- Typing information in their own words.
- Using different transitions between slides.
- Different backgrounds.
- Clear and visible text.
Activity:

The children form groups of different nationalities to make a PowerPoint presentation together. They
have to discuss which information they have learned the past week and put this into their own words.
They have to choose the most important parts and put this into a PowerPoint presentation that
meets the requirements. They also have to choose which photos and video’s they want to add and
upload them into the PowerPoint.
They will also prepare and practice the presentation and divide the tasks.

The teachers walk around the room and help where necessary.

Conclusion:

On the last day the groups will each give their presentations.

Objectives:

With a short recording, the student identifies the topic of the lesson.

- I divide pupils into mixed groups (from each country, 1 pupil)

- students independently read the text
- let's talk about the meaning of whiteboard words (apartment, suburb, hard, a full-time job)
- write down the answers to the questions next to the text
4. Best Athlete:
- pupils make groups in such a way that there are pupils from the same country in the same group
- With the help of computers, each group prepares a presentation of the best athlete from their
own

TOPIC: Naravne značilnosti pokrajin
AIMS:
Student
1. gets to know the geographical characteristics of Slovenia
2. creates abstracts on the basis of various sources, statistical data and digital materials on the natural
geographical landscapes of Slovenia,
3. delimits and divides parts of each landscape on the map,
4. describes the characteristics of the surface, climate, watersheds, flora and fauna of each landscape.
5. names the natural tourist attractions of each landscape.
6. introduces to Erasmus guests the diversity of Slovenia.

LEARNING SCENARIO

1. Giving instructions.
Students are divided into 5 groups. Each group is joined by an Erasmus pupil (or several pupils - guests).
Students on A3 coloured paper make a mental pattern about the natural features of the selected natural
geographical landscape of Slovenia.
Groups: Alpine Landscapes, Subalpine Landscapes, Pannonian Provinces, Mediterranean Provinces, Pannonian
Provinces.
The thought pattern of each group includes: division, description of natural features, naming of major rivers,
larger settlements, natural tourist attractions.
Students look for information in the textbook and online.

2. Teamwork.
The pupils are divided into 5 groups, joined by Erasmus pupils. They divide work in a team. With the help of the
textbook and the web, according to the instructions, they form a thought pattern.

3. Presentation of the work.


Made thought patterns are hung on the wall. The group representative briefly summarizes the work of the
group.

How to get to the Blackheads House

Subject Area: English and Science

Specific Content: Maps

Age of students: 10-13

Content Objectives  practice using maps


 learn how to use public transport in Riga.

Language Objectives  to demonstrate the usage of transport relating vocabulary;

Materials:  Maps of Riga with the routes


 Public transport schedule
 Instructions how to get to the Blackheads House from Riga
Secondary School 34.
 Students are divided in 5 groups.
Procedure:  Every group receives a randomly chosen envelope. In every envelope
there are maps with routes on it, public transport timetables and
instructions for the leader how to get to the public transport stops and
then how to walk from the stop to the Blackheads house, the meeting
point.
o Group 1 – route by bus 21
o Group 2 – route by bus 37
o Group 3 – route by trolleybus 9
o Group 4 – route by tram 1
o Group 5 – route by tram 2
 The groups of students leave the school. Every group takes a different
route.
 The groups independently are getting to the meeting point, using their
maps and communicating with local people in English.
 At the meeting point the students share their experience, the challenges
Closure and opportunities of using their type of transport.
 The students also share their experience using public transport in their
native country.

Sorting Rubbish

Subject Area: English and Science

Specific Content: Recycling

Age of students: 10-13

Content Objectives  To identify environmental problems


 to determine what items can be recycled
 to awake the imagination and design a new useful product from

 Envelopes with paper “bins”, pictures of materials, words written on
pieces on paper. (worksheet 2)
 Plastic bottles
 The teacher presents a video, showing environmental problems,
Procedure: happening with our planet.
 Short discussion on what students have seen in the video.
 Presenting the new vocabulary (worksheet1)
 Students in groups fill the worksheet, discuss the possible solutions of
the problems, and present them in the class.
 Recycling and classifying rubbish are the ways to help the environment.
 The students are given the envelopes with pictures of paper bins of
different colours

 Students choose and stick the pictures of rubbish on the bin. They also
stick the corresponding words or write their own ideas.
 Students present their “paper bins” and explain their choice
 Teacher explains that the term “upcycling” means giving old things a
new life and give the students the task to design a product from old
plastic bottles.
 Students in groups present their “upcycled products” explaining their
usage.
