RECREATIONAL GAMES

Recreation

- Recreation is an activity that people do during their free time. Free time is time off
from business, work, studies, household chores, duties, and responsibilities.
Recreation must be fun, enjoyable, and socially acceptable, helping cultivate a
steady balance in life

- can also be seen as a social instrument because of what it can contribute to the
community. Recreation programs, planned and implemented by both private and
government organizations, build socially desirable behaviors such as using one's
free time wisely and maintaining one’s physical fitness.

Examples :

- recreational activities include games, sports, travel, dancing, and arts and crafts.

GROUP GAMES

1. TUG OF WAR
- it is a sport that pits two teams against each other in a test of strength.

● Variations

1. Up-to-creek
- The game may be done across sandy creek beds or in muddy fields. A
team starts to lose when the players in front are already in the creek or
mud.

2. Beanbag Pick Up
- A beanbag will be placed two meters behind the last player on each end of
the rope. The teams must pull their opponents far enough to their side to
pick up the beanbag.

3. Timed Tug-of-War
- The players must pick up the rope and gently pull it to get it to their side.
Then, at the signal to start, both teams must try to pull their opponents
toward their own side. After 30 seconds the team with the longer part of
the rope wins.
4. Paul Revere’s Tug-of-war
- The team members pair up as horses and riders. The horses get down on
all fours, while the riders mount the horses and pick up the rope. At the
signal to start, they must try to pull the other team past the center line.
Riders who fall off their horses or touch the ground with their feet must let
go of the rope until they have remounted their horses. The first team to
pull the other team to their side wins.

2. SAMSON, DELILAH, AND THE LION

- Samson, Delilah and the Lion is a modified version of Rock, Paper, Scissors or
Jack En Poy game.

3. RABBIT, WALL AND SOLDIER

- Rabbit, Wall, and Soldier’s is another version of Samson, Delilah, and the Lion
but with different characters.

4. TOUCH BALL

- Touch ball is a game that involves running and improves agility. It is played by
two teams with equal number of players each.

Variations:
● Side by Side Touch Ball
- The players stand in pairs, with their elbows locked together. During the
game the pair that happens to split up will be automatically eliminated.

● Front and Back Touch Ball

- This is also played in pairs. The first player is in front, while the other holds
the shoulder of the partner staying at the back. If a pair split up during the
game, they will be eliminated.

5. KICKBALL
- Kickball, originally called kick baseball, is derived from baseball and football. It
involves running and passing and helps develop the players’ agility. The goal of
the game is to have the players of one team return the ball from the home base
to the field and then circle while the other team tries to stop them by tagging
them “out” with the ball before they can return to the home base. Instead of
hitting a small ball with a bat, players kick a large ball.
6. BLINDFOLD RELAY

- Relay games are played between two or more teams. In a relay some members
of the team start and those who remain wait for their turn and eventually join as
the game progresses. A blindfold relay game gives emphasis on trust,
coordination, and cooperation.

7. ZIGZAG RELAY
- This is a more challenging version of the blindfold relay, with the players turning
around markers that are one meter apart from each other.

8. UP AND UNDER RELAY

Mechanics:
1. The class will be divided into two teams with equal number of members,’

2. The teacher will draw a starting line and another line ten meters away to mark the
end of the playing area as well as the markers in between (these should be equivalent
to the number of players per team). The team will assemble behind the starting line.

3. The race will start with the first player in a kneeling position on the first marker with
his/her palms flat on the ground as if he/she will crawl.

4, The next player will jump over the first player like in the game luksong baka and
assume the same position on the next marker.

5. The third player will also jump over the first and second players and will assume the
same position on the third marker: The race will continue until the last player has
jumped over all his/her teammates.

6. Once they reach the end line, they will race again going back to the starting line.
They 2 will no longer jump over their teammates but will pass through them. The
members of the team must stretch their arms and legs and arch their bodies to form a
passage for the last player to pass through. This continues until all players are once
again lined up behind the starting line.

7. The first team to finish the race-wins.
