TOPIC: School uniforms should be required

Hello Mr. Jon and everyone, my name is Tra, but you can call me Rosy and wellcome
to my debate. My topic today is student should wear uniform.
On the affirmative side, there are 3 important arguments that support my point of
view. First of all:
1. School uniforms create a level playing field among students, reducing peer
pressure and bullying.

⇒When all students are dressed alike, competition between students over clothing
choices and the teasing of those who are dressed in less expensive or less fashionable
outfits can be eliminated.

 In a 2013 survey by the National Association of Elementary School Principals

(NAESP), 86% of school leaders said uniforms make "a significant, positive
impact on peer pressure," and 64% said uniforms reduce bullying.

Wearing the same uniform means all the students are equal, they are in the common
world and there is nobody rich or poor, so no one can judge and do harm to others’
mental and physical health based on what they wear.

2. School uniforms can save parents money.

Parents can reduce their financial burden when their children are limited to wearing
one simple outfit every day.
A national survey of 517 US school leaders found that 94% of those surveyed believe
“one of the main benefits to parents is that school uniforms are more cost-effective
than regular apparel,” and 77% estimated the average annual cost of school uniforms
per child to be $150 or less. Without school uniform policies, parents may feel
pressure to compete with other families by purchasing fashionable clothes for their
children.
⇒ Therefore, wearing uniforms will help save some money on clothes and the money
we save can be invested in learning for our children.
3. School uniforms improve student performance by helping students
concentrate on learning rather than fashion.
 Principal James Covey, a veteran of Chicago Public Schools, stated that when
“students all wear the same outfit, they become less concerned about how they
fit in. They can concentrate on their schoolwork, instead of how their outfit
compares to what their friends are wearing.”
⇒ It is effortless to choose what to wear to school when you have a uniform, so
students aren’t tardy as often. Let’s imagine it's kind of a huge distraction because
students are obsessed with clothes and always thinking about what clothes they are
going to wear today. Or some students, especially girls become a slave to fashion,
gradually.
⇒So wearing uniforms make fewer tardies and distractions means students are able to
devote more time to learning, and as a result, they can get higher scores or more
achievements.
REBUTTAL
Thank you for your arguments on the opposing side. But from my point of view, you
don't have to concern yourself with creating a full wardrobe for your children because
they have a set uniform to wear to school. You are no longer required to worry about
having an abundance of tops, bottoms, shoes, and accessories to complete ensembles
and have various outfits to wear each day. It presumably appears costly up front to
purchase many sets of uniform components if your school has a policy requiring them.
Yet if you just need to buy those few items, you'll end up spending less money
overall. Clothing trends come and go quickly. Staying on top of what is cool or cute
requires a ton of money. Investing in school uniforms removes the pressure of keeping
up.

CONCLUSION:
To sum up, we want everyone to work towards wearing uniforms that will bring many
benefits, especially the 3 ideas mentioned above. Uniforms help with creating more
open-minded and empathetic people. Uniforms help to ensure that students need to
stand out based on their character and achievements, and not just their family’s money
and fancy clothes. This also created an environment of healthy competition because
you gained social points.
