6 MAINTENANCE MANUAL

This manual tries to collect those general points to be taken into

consideration in order to extend the working life of the unit you have bought and
guarantee a good operation.

For an adequate maintenance of the unit, EDIBON recommends to take into account
the aspects explained below.

NOTE 1: If the unit requires some specific maintenance conditions, please

refer to the maintenance annex included in the practical exercises manual (M7).

NOTE 2: If the unit includes safety elements, such as thermostats and

pressure switches, EDIBON recommends to check them monthly. In order to
guarantee safe working conditions and a correct operation of the unit, the user may
make sure that these safety elements are correctly connected. If any doubt related to
these aspects would arise, please consult with EDIBON’s technical service.

6.1 INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CLEANING

Generally, every unit from EDIBON must be clean at all times. Externally,
they must be free of dust, water or any other substance; and internally, they must
always be free from any residue of fluid or substance that may remain after the
corresponding test session.

At a particular level, we recommend the following points:

a) Every portable part must be kept lubricated.

b) Do not leave any rest of fluid or substance inside the circuit or outside
the unit when finishing the practical exercises.

c) Cover the unit with some transparent plastic.

6.2 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

EDIBON recommends to sign a maintenance service from the moment the

guarantee expires, so that the correct operation of the unit may be guaranteed at all
times. If these preventive actions were not carried out, the client is advised to check
the unit annually by himself.

The units have been devised and designed to work with them in a normal
human comfort environment. Therefore, their use under other conditions will cause
their progressive deterioration and their working life will be shortened considerably.
For that reason, the unit must be kept, approximately, at 22ºC and 50% of relative
humidity.

That is why the following recommendations must be considered:

a.1) Avoid leaving the unit connected to the mains after its use.

a.2) Avoid leaving the unit exposed to sunlight or to a direct light source, receiving
excessive light for a long time.

a.3) Avoid leaving the unit in extreme humid environments.

a.4) Avoid leaving the unit in a saline environment. It may accelerate its deterioration
drastically due to corrosion.

a.5) Avoid leaving the unit with chemical products, water or other substances during
several days or longer periods. EVEN HIGHLY RESISTANT MATERIALS CAN
END UP CORRODING WITH TIME DUE TO THE EFFECT OF THOSE
AGENTS.

a.6) Those units with portable elements will need a suitable lubrication.

6.3 PERIODIC OPERATION

Due to different circumstances the unit might remain inactive for long
periods. If, for any reason, the unit were not to be used for more than one year, it is
recommended to start it up, at least for a short period of time. That should be done
twice or three times per year, since NOT USING the equipment may cause more
damage to it than a frequent use.

The accumulation of water or other substances in areas which are difficult

to be emptied, which may cause the corrosion and wear of certain components of the
unit, the seizing up of water pumps due to dirt accumulation, etc. can be avoided by
starting up the unit now and then.

6.4 CONTROL OF THE FACILITIES WHICH SUPPLY THE UNIT

The deterioration of the laboratory facilities which supply the unit is often
a source of problems that cause a deterioration of the unit. For this reason, facilities
must be checked and kept properly.

We recommend these tips to this effect:

6.4.1 Electricity

Make sure that the laboratory’s safety systems, such as thermal magnetic
circuit breakers, residual current devices, fuses, etc., are in a correct operation
position. Besides, it must be checked that the supply values (voltage, power, current,
frequency, etc.) are the suitable and required ones for the unit.

6.4.2 Water

Make sure that the laboratory’s water supply has an adequate pressure
within a logical range, and specially make sure that it does not contain ions or
elements which may deposit, rust, calcify or cause chemical or catalytic reactions,
causing a deterioration or obstruction of the unit’s internal circuits. The use of filters
is recommended to avoid such problems.

6.4.3 Air

Make sure that the laboratory’s air supply has the pressure required by the
unit and a suitable humidity degree. For that purpose, there must be a regulating
valve and a filter to adjust these parameters to those required by the unit. The use of
an air supply line without the appropriate humidity filter will cause an ingress of
water into some elements of the unit. As a consequence, water could deteriorate
them.

6.5 PERIODIC CHECKING/UPDATING OF THE UNIT

EDIBON recommends to request a check of the unit, done by an EDIBON

specialist, every five years, with the aim of making its working life longer. A factory
checking or updating of your unit will allow you to have the improvements carried
out since the unit was purchased.
