One of the most common questions I get from students is about the effects of a debilitated
planet, especially cancellation of debilitation and Neechabhanga Raja Yogas. It is an unfortunate
thing but these things are nowhere covered in full - thus this course.
1. A debilitated Graha hurts those Bhavas it aspects or joins. This is because Grahas in
inauspicious dignities hurt the Bhavas they aspect or join. For more on this please watch my
Judging Grahas course.
2. A debilitated Graha is in Sushupti Avastha, or a sleeping/unconscious condition and so it
has no ability to take care of those things it is a Karaka, for those Bhavas it rules, or for the
Grahas that it rules. While it may not have any such ability, that does not mean that it cannot
be productive. It can still be productive if it is influenced by its natural friends or joined by
Jupiter, or if it is in the Rasi of its natural friend, in which case those planets able to support
the debilitated planet so that it can be productive. On the other hand, natural enemies
influencing, joining Sun or Saturn, or being in a natural enemies rasi destroys the Graha so
much more. These effects are due to Lajjitaadi Avasthas, which are the most important
principles of judging Grahas and so you will want to study my Lajjitaadi Avasthas course.
3. The Dasa of a debilitated Graha is always going to be stressful regardless of any friends
influencing, this is due to the Deeptaadi Avasthas which hold that a Graha in debilitation is
Bhita "alarmed."
Deep Exaltation & Deep Debilitation
Exaltation is known as Uccha "high," debilitation is known as Neecha "low," and these two
extremes are most pronounced at a Grahas Deep Exaltation and Deep Debilitation points. These
points are critical astronomical points, which means that these are critical points to examine in the
Rasi Chart.
A Graha close to its Exaltation point has a high Uccha Bala, which increases the Shad Bala and
increases the Ishta "good" of the Graha. A Graha close to its Debilitation point has a low Uccha
Bala, which reduces the Shad Bala and increases the Kastha "ill" of a planet. And these hold effect
in ALL Vargas.
Shad Bala is important in the context of seeing how much power a Graha has to influence
another Graha, the stronger a Graha the more it can influence, for good or ill, another Graha. This
is a qualitative measurement, not determinative measurement.
Ishta and Kashta is a score arrived at by averaging a Grahas Uccha Bala and its Cheshta Bala.
Chestha Bala is its strength based on its relationship to the Sun with retrograde Grahas having high
Cheshta Bala and combust planets having very low Cheshta bala. Ishta and Kashta are one of the
three things that determine how much a Graha can effect a Bhava that it joins or aspects. The key
word here is HOW MUCH, it does not determine whether a Graha will or will not help a Graha.
Dignity determines that. Ishta and Kashta are qualitative measurements, not determinative
measurements.
Cancellation of Debilitation
The idea of cancellation of debilitation is that certain circumstance will make a debilitated Graha
average instead of totally troublesome. It will never make a planet great, it just makes it average.
3. The debilitated planet is joined with an exalted planet, or with a planet in its own rasi.
In this case, everything the debilitated planet influences is also influenced by a planet in good dignity, so
things average out. Rather than following this rule blindly, it is a better practice to follow the principles of
BPHS for each planet to arrive at the perfectly accurate story about each Graha wellbeing and capacity.
4. The debilitated planet and its lord have exchanged Rasis.
If the debilitated planet and its lord have exchanged Rasis, the debilitated planet will cause trouble to the
house it rules as well as the house it is in, but the other planet will hold things together - if it is in good
dignity. The interchange can cause an auspiscious Maha Yoga if the interchange is between any of the 1st, 2nd,
4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, or 11th houses. It can cause an auspiscious Vipareet Raja Yoga if the interchange is
between the 6th, 8th and 12th houses, as long as no other house lords join who are not the lords of the 6th, 8th
or 12th. It can cause an up and down Khala Yoga if the interchange is between the 3rd house and any of the
1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, or 11th. Or, it can cause the difficult Dainya Yoga if the interchange is between the
6th, 8th or 12th, and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, or 11th.
1. The planet that rules the rasi in which the debilitated planet is placed is on an angle from the
Lagna or the Moon.
2. The planet that is exalted in the rasi in which the debilitated planet is placed is on an angle from
the Lagna or the Moon.
3. The lord of the rasi in which the debilitated planet is exalted is on an angle from the Lagna or the
Moon.
In all these cases it is the lord of the Rasi in question that gives the success, not the debilitated Graha.
The success producing planet gains strength and motivation from the debilitated planet and uplifts the native.
The dasa of this planet will give the success, while the dasa of the debilitated planet will be troublesome and
you need to analyze it in respect to the normal principles.
4. The lord of the planet's debilitation rasi and the lord of its exaltation rasi are joined or on angles
from each other.
In this case the Dasas of these two lords give the success, espeically their Dasa/Antardasas, while the
dasa of the debilitated planet is troublesome and you need to analyze it in respect to the normal principles.
