Definition
For the purposes of this report, all public Michigan postsecondary institutions are classified as either a
community college, public university or 4-Year Independent. This report covers the 4-Year Independent Sector.
The initial school year in which a student enters a Michigan community college, public university or 4-Year
Independent as an undergraduate, or when a high school student participating in an Early/Middle College

by the students in the Adjusted State Cohort for the sector.
The count of full- and part-time students in the Base Cohort who were enrolled at the Michigan 4-Year
Independent during the Sector Entry Year.
The count of students in the Base Cohort who were enrolled as nondegree-seeking at the Michigan 4-Year
Independent during the Sector Entry Year.
The count of students who were enrolled as degree-seeking at a 4-Year institution during the Sector Entry Year.
This is equal to the Base Cohort count, minus the Nondegree-Seeking Enrollments count.
This count represents students who were counted in the Degree-Seeking Cohort at a given Michigan 4-Year
Independent, but are now being counted elsewhere. If the student did achieve success at a Michigan 4-Year
