Jenny was at home in Grogol with her brother Doug.

“Let’s do some cooking,” she said. We can cook something nice

for Mom. Then we can all eat together when she comes back
from the airport.”
“OK,” said Doug. “I like sweet and sour chicken. Let’s make
that.”
“Alright, we’ve got chicken and we’ve got flour,” Jenny said. We
can make a nice sauce. Come on, let’s get started. Let’s give
Mom a nice surprise when she gets back.”

“Goodbye, dear,” Mrs. Jones said. “I hope everything will be all

right in Singapore. Please don’t forget to get some presents for

the children. Jenny wants shoes and Doug wants the Superman
DVD.”
“OK”, replied Mr. Jones.
“See you on Tuesday,” Mrs. Jones said and then waved her
husband goodbye as he walked through customs to catch his
plane.

Mrs. Jones walked quickly back to the parking lot. It was already
half past five and she wanted to get home before dark. She got
into her car but then she had to wait for a long time before she

got out of Soekarno Hatta airport and onto the toll road to
Jakarta.
It felt strange to be in the car alone. Usually their driver drove,
but today he was sick. She turned on the radio and listened to the
six o’clock news.

Six o’clock already! And it was dark now, too. There weren’t
many cars on the toll road and Mrs. Jones started to feel a bit
lonely. A bit lonely, and a bit afraid. Then, suddenly, the car
started to move from side to side. “Oh, no,” she thought, “Not a
puncture, please!”

She stopped at the side of the road and checked all the tires. One
of the front tires was flat! Completely flat! She looked more
closely. There were nails in it. Three or four silver nails. And all
the nails were new!
