H.R.

Giger

Hans Rudi Giger is recognised as one of the world's foremost artist of

the fantastic. He was born in 1940 at Chur in Switzerland, a chemist's son,
and in 1962 moved to Zurich, where he studied architecture and industrial
design at the College of Arts and Crafts.
Giger developed an early fascination with the imagery of the occult,
mysticism and fantastique. His most profound inspirations were found in
the works of acclaimed artists and writers whose work reflected the dark
and surreal.
Soon he was producing his first freelance artwork. As early as 1969 a poster
edition of his pictures was available by mail order. H.R. Giger's surreal
dream landscapes created with spray-guns and stencils were the cornerstone
of his fame, and he built on his reputation in spectacular fashion with his
design for Ridley Scott's blockbuster movie ALIEN , which was seen all over
the world.
H.R.Giger (Sil Designer) is the conceptual genius who gave nightmares to
countless movie fans with his creation of the terrifying creature in the
blockbuster Alien films. For his design of that deadly extraterrestrial,
Giger won an Academy Award, which was presented for the original Alien ,
directed by Ridley Scott.

In "SPECIES" Giger once again applied his trademark stylistic symbiosis of

flesh and machine, which has been dubbed by art critics as "biomechanical."
Now, his own remarkable achievements as an accomplished artist, sculptor,
architect and interior designer have not only added him to the list of
esteemed artists and artisans, but made him an inspiration to others.
