REFERENCES ‘The standards given in Annex A contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard, AC the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid, All standards are subject to revision and parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated in Annex A. 3 TERMINOLOGY For the purpose of this standard, the definitions given in IS 4845 shall apply. 4 MANUFACTURE 4.1 Ordinary Portland cement, 53 grade shall be ‘manufactured by intimately mixing together calcareous and argillaceous and/or other silica, alumina or iron oxide bearing materials, burning them at a clinkering Cemperature and grinding the resultant clinker so as to produce a cement capable of complying with this standard, No material shall be added after burning, other than gypsum (natural mineral or chemical, see Note), water, performance improver(s), and not ‘more than a total of 1.0 percent of air-entraining agents or other agents including colouring agents, which have proved not to be harmful. NOTE — Chemical gypsum shall be added provided that the performance requirements ofthe final product as specified in {bis standard ace met sith 4.1.1 Limit of addition of performance improver shall beas given in Table 1 and shall be inclusive of I percent additives as mentioned above. If a combination of above performance improvers is added, the maximum limit of total addition shall be 5 percent. 5 CHEMICAL REQUIREMENTS 5.1 When tested in accordance with the methods given in IS 4032, ordinary Portland cement, 53 grade shall comply with the chemical requirements given in Table 2 Table 1 Performance Improvers (Clause 4.1.1) ‘SINe, Performance Percentage Addition Requirement Improver by Mass, Max o ° o @ ) Fyab 5 ‘Conforming wo 3812 Pan 48) Graplated sag 5 Conforning 1 IS 12089 ) Sia fame 5 Conforming 1 IS 15388 i) Limestone 5 (CaCO, content calculated froma CxO content shall ot be less than 75 percent ‘when festedin accordance with IS 1760 (Part 3) ¥) Rice husk ath 5 2) Reactive sca shall not be les than 80 percent when tested as per IS 3812 ean) 1b) Pozzolanic activity index shall othe less han 90 percent when tested as per Wet 18 1727 ©) Lass on ignition shall note more than 5 percent when ested a per IS 1727 i) Metso 5 2} Silicon dioxide (Si0, plus aluminium oxide (AL,O,) in perceat by mass Shall not be Iss than 98.0 percent when tested as pe IS 1727 by) Lass on gnition shall not he more than 20 percent when ested as per IS 172 6} Total alkalis as sodium oxide (as Na,O equivalent) in perent by mass shall not be more than 1.5 percent when tested as per IS 4032 asicleseetained on 45 miron IS sieve (et sieving) shall not be more than 115 percent when tele sper 1S 1727 4 IS 12269 : 2013 ‘Table 2 Chemical Requirements for Ordinary Portland Cement, 53 Grade (Foreword and Clauses 5.1 and 5.2) SNe. ‘Characteristic Requirement o @ i} {) Ratio of percentage of ime wo percentages of sca, lumina Ow0-102 sand ron oxide, when calulated by the forms 20-080, FESO, + 12 ALO, + 065FE,0, i) Ratio of percentage of alumina to that of ton oide, Min ii) asoluble residue, percent by mass, Max jv) Magnesia, percent by mass, Ma ') Teta sulphur content cleuated a sulphuric anydride (60)) percent by mass, Max vi) Lost on gnition, percent by mass, Max vi) Chloride content, perceat by mass, Max vil) Alkali content, NOTE — Alkali 40 o4 (005 for prestessed structures, see Note) regates reactions have been noticed in aggregates in some pars ofthe country.
