ABSTRACT

The study dealt with the perceived parental influence as predictor of students’
attitude towards mathematics among STEM students. The primary goal of the
study is to determine if there is a significant relationship between perceived
parental influence and students’ attitude towards mathematics utilizing a
quantitative non-experimental study using an adopted and modified
questionnaire with 187 total respondents. Mean, Pearson-r and Multiple
Regression Analysis were used to determine the level of influence, significant
relationship, and domains perceived parental influence beliefs that
significantly influence the students’ attitude towards mathematics. Results
showed a moderate level of perceived parental influence in terms of maternal
and paternal. Furthermore, results showed a moderate level of students’
attitude towards mathematics in terms of enjoyment, self-confidence, value,
and motivation. The research reveals only the maternal significantly influence
the students’ attitude towards mathematics among STEM students. The
findings of the research can assist students in receiving programs and other
assistance to continually increase their attitude toward mathematics.
