WORKSHOP 1 ACTIVITY 1
3. Explain why it necessitates to study Art? How does it relate with your chosen field
(major course)? Cite an Art principles that support this. Indicate your references.
Art according to Gerhard Richter, a Post-modern German visual artist, is the
highest form of hope. Then, it made me realized why it necessitates to study Art, there is
hope in finding the answers we tried to seek and in shaping something we are puzzled.
Art is considered as man’s greatest creation, upon studying and appreciating it, we are
able to know man’s greatest achievements. In relation to Biology specifically in
Biodiversity, my chosen field, Art help build awareness in nature and the environmental
realm. As man creates art (1st principle) out from it, it covers the fourth Art principle: Arts
interprets, as well as the 5th one: Art expresses and communicates.
One example of an art
which man has made in this field
is the Ocean Biodiversity
Information System which
mapped information about the
distribution and abundance of
living species in the ocean,
created in year 1998. It aimed to
address coastal and world
ocean concerns. It presents also
the achievements of man in
terms of discovery and
observation in marine life.

Moreover, Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life found in one area, in other
words, diversity, then, art foster tolerance for differences and bring them together.
Therefore, through Art, it processes an order as well (8th principle).
