INTRODUCTION

Sustainable tourism is the management of all resources to achieve economic,

social, and aesthetic goals while preserving cultural integrity, fundamental ecological

processes, biological variety, and life support systems. The importance of sustainable

tourism is to balance all areas of development, including economic, social, and

environmental considerations. This is because if one of these aspects is ignored, the

others are jeopardized.

Furthermore, sustainability is a component of the tourism industry because it is

critical for tourism to have stakeholders who are knowledgeable about their function or

role; a strong presence of political leadership to ensure broad participation and

collaboration among all key players; the impacts are continuously monitored, and

preventive or corrective actions are implemented; tourism must provide meaningful

experiences and high levels of satisfaction to tourists.

Recognized the importance of sustainable tourism in the tourist business.

Sustainability is not a one-sided trait; it is a huge challenge in terms of ensuring that

sustainable tourism is implemented. Keeping the area clean and conserved is an

important step toward tourism sustainability. Focusing on environmental activities,

keeping check of legislation, and knowing the companies and employment in the region

all contribute to the area's sustainability.

I. BACKGROUND OF THE AREA

Oslob is located on Cebu's southernmost tip. It's a little coastal village, but it's

become world famous for the whale sharks, or the world's largest fish, that prowl its

waters, colloquially known as butanding or tuki. There are several options for getting

about the Oslob resorts and attractions. Car rental services are available at resorts,

hotels, and tour agencies. You may also explore by foot because some of the sights are

not accessible by vehicle and are only a short distance apart.

Oslob is divided into 21 barangays. Poblacion is the most populous barrio, with a

population of around 4000 people, according to expert estimates. There are numerous

fascinating locations to see in this town, such as the largest church, The Church of the

maculate Conception, which is located in the center of their Poblacion. The Cuartel

Ruins are nearby, and hotels are being erected in 2019 to meet the demand of visitors

to the town. The most renowned attraction, Whaleshark Interaction, is located in the

southern portion of Oslob, which is known as Tan-Awan. It is approximately 9 kilometers

from Poblacion. To go to this location, you'll need to use a shuttle bus. Tumalog Falls is

located in that location.

II. ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES OR PROGRAM WITHIN THE AREA

The local government promotes an educational experience of watching whale

sharks and environmental awareness, it fails to stress any cautious measures to

safeguard the sharks from the consequences of feeding. As a result, the tourists are

improperly informed, which leads to various violations against the whale sharks.
For this reason, we must inform our clients about responsible tourism and

environmental safety. And to enlighten tourists about the reality of what’s happening in

Oslob, and to help them make an informed decision before embarking on their journey.

Responsible tourism necessitates extensive research before visiting a location. In our

pursuit of the perfect selfie, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that we may be harming

the environment. It is usually beneficial to be aware of the actual situation of the sites

we visit ahead of time. We must all take responsibility for our environment. Before

arranging tours, we must take into account all environmental factors. By this action we

can help on eradicating the huge possible problem in the future. it also helps the

environment as well as the safety of the tourist.

Projects into whale shark tourism in Oslo continue, with environmental

organizations such as LAMAVE (Large Marine Vertebrates Study Institute) undertaking

field research and tracking individual sharks on a regular basis. Of course, there are

issues about sustainability, and as visitors, we have a responsibility to safeguard the

environment that we are fortunate to enjoy.

For the time being, it appears that conservation efforts are expanding in the little

town, since the very individuals who harmed the ecosystem of these endangered

species are now working together to attempt to preserve them more. While the waters

benefit, the community and tourists who get to see one of nature's most spectacular

wonders benefit as well.

To compensate for the surge of tourists, islanders and government have

tightened whale shark viewing laws. Following these regulations contributes to the goal
of safeguarding the animals from harm, and all tourists must remember that their

behavior has an influence on wildlife here and across the world.

There are no touching rules, no illegal feeding, no motorboats, no flash

photography, and no sunscreen to be worn in the water. Visitors have reported seeing

visitors removed from tours for infringing these restrictions, however some study

discovered that majority do so unintentionally. OSlob isn't the only area where you can

view whale sharks. Sites around the Philippines, such as Donsol, provide the

experience in an environment where the species naturally travel, eliminating the risk of

influencing behavior.

III. REGULATIONS FOR KEEPING THE CLEANLINESS OF THE AREA

The Republic Act 9003 Ecological solid waste management act of 2000, Republic

Act 9275 or a Clean Water Act of 2004, and Presidential Decree 1586 or the

Environmental impact statement (EIS) Statement of 1978. Has a significant to

preserved the cleanliness of the place from residential to commercial establishment. It is

obligatory to abide this regulation in Oslob Cebu to make sure that the sustainability and

the astonishing view of the spot will be intactly clean. These laws is aim to protect the

our natural resources such as water, land to prevent populations cause by negligence of

human.

In order to minimize pollution on its sandbar and dive spots on Sumilon Island,

OSLOB's administrators will put in place new regulations, including a daily limit of 500

people. The new rules went into force today after a week-long cleanup during which two
tons of different types of rubbish were collected. The town will only allow 500 visitors

each day to the Sumilon Island sandbar starting today, according to Elizabeth

Benologa, the Oslob tourism officer, who made the announcement at a news

conference on Monday.

According to Benologa, limiting the amount of visitors to the sandbar is intended to

stop solid garbage from accumulating there. According to Benologa, the Municipal

Government has also mandated that boat companies who transport tourists to the

sandbar give their passengers black bags so they won't leave any solid waste behind.

According to Benologa, the municipality already has a law that forbids the depositing of

trash in public spaces. Benologa claimed that in addition to restricting the number of

visitors to the sandbar, they are also limiting the number of hours visitors can stay there.

The time limit is three hours, but Benologa claimed they might provide exceptions,

particularly during the busiest time of year.

The stewards appointed to safeguard and administer the sandbar and dive sites held

by the municipality, according to members of the Bancogon Oslob Fishermen's

Association, have a challenging job ahead of them.
