Human causes of climate

change
Aims:
• Understand how humans contribute to global climate
change
• Explain how the enhanced greenhouse effect is created
• Examine which countries are contributing to greenhouse
gas emissions the most
Geog your memory!
Explain how ice cores are used to evidence
climate change. (4 marks)
Have you missed anything?

• Ice cores are drilled from the ice in places such as the Arctic
• Scientists use the light and dark layers of ice to calculate the
year that the different sectors of ice were formed
• They measure the amount of co2 trapped in the air bubbles
within the ice
• The more co2, the warmer is was that year

Can you include names of
greenhouse gases in your answer?

What is the enhanced greenhouse effect? (4 marks)

• The burning of fossil fuels releases more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere
• This results in the layer of greenhouse gases becoming thicker
• Meaning that more heat is trapped as less can escape
• Leading to an increase in Earths temperature

• Feeling creative? Look at cartoon A on pg 58. Create
your own cartoon image to represent global warming

• Explain why the lifestyle of people in ACs might be
