EDUC 128- The Teachers and The School Curriculum.

September 8,2023

Curriculum is a standards-based sequence of planned experiences where students

practice and achieve proficiency in content and applied learning skills. Additionally, in
making or planning a curriculum there are factors to consider we have the learner,
support materials, time, subject matter or content, and the desired outcomes.

First, lets talk about the learner. When designing a curriculum, it is important to consider
the learner’s needs and abilities. This includes understanding their prior knowledge,
learning styles, and any specific support materials they may require to enhance their
learning experience. Also we have support materials, where it plays a crucial role in
curriculum planning as they provide additional resources and tools to support the
learning process. These materials can include textbooks, online resources, multimedia
content, and hands-on activities. By incorporating a variety of support materials,
educators can cater to different learning preferences and engage learners in a more
meaningful way. Time is another important factor to consider when planning a
curriculum. It is essential to allocate sufficient time for each topic or learning objective,
ensuring that learners have enough opportunities to grasp and apply the concepts being
taught. Time management also involves considering the pace of learning, allowing for
flexibility and adjustments based on the progress of the learners. Subject matter or
content selection is a critical aspect of curriculum planning. The content should be
relevant, age-appropriate, and aligned with the desired learning outcomes. It should
also be engaging and meaningful to the learners, fostering their curiosity and promoting
deeper understanding. Lastly, the desired outcomes of the curriculum guide the
planning process. These outcomes define what learners should be able to know,
understand, and do by the end of the curriculum. By clearly defining the desired
outcomes, educators can structure the curriculum in a way that ensures these goals are
met.
In conclusion, planning a curriculum involves considering the learner, support materials,
time, subject matter or content, and desired outcomes. Each of these factors contributes
to the design and implementation of an effective curriculum that meets the needs of the
learners and promotes meaningful learning experiences.
