APPLIED MICROBIOLOGY
Algae like the plants in the water ,they take up CO2 and convert it using sunlight.
Ocean angle absorb one quarter to a third of global CO2 emission every year. But
all angle do this even if they aren’t in the ocean.
Algae play an important role in aquatic life and human life.
There are several common types of algae such as kelp, green algae, red algae, and
spirulina. (phần này k cần cho vào slide)

1. Brown Algae (Kelp)

They are found in colder water and usually yellow or yellowish.
Kelp can be processed into delicious dishes or used as a functional food, in powder
form. It is rich in vitamins(B1,B2,B3), minerals, trace elements and enzymes.
The B vitamins are especially necessary for cell metabolism and provide energy for
the body.

2. Green Algae
-It is mostly found in fresh water, attached to submerged rocks or wood. On top of
water, it looks like a layer of green scum.
-Green Algae serves as food and a source of oxygen for some aquatic organisms.
3. Red Algae
-A red algae, known as Nori, is a popular food in Japan.
- Red and Brown algae aren't just eaten, they are also used in the manufacturing of
some industrial products, like animal feed, plastics, fertilizer, makeup, and
medicines.
4. Spirulina platensis
- Spirulina is one of the most popular foods in the world.
- Spirulina has a very high protein and vitamin content, along with other nutrients
and antioxidants that are especially beneficial for the brain.
- They have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the
risk of obesity, anemia, and cancer.

However, Algal blooms happen when a lot of algae grows very quickly. They
change the color of the water and cause many harms such as polluting water
sources, killing animals and destroying corals.
