Are testing and assessment synonymous with each other? Why?

Assessment is a systematic process of documenting and using empirical data

on knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs to improve student learning. Testing in
education, such as grammar tests and driving license tests, is used to examine
someone's knowledge and skill level. It is an evaluative device where a sample of an
examinee's behavior is obtained, evaluated, and scored using a standardized
process.
Test and assessment are often used interchangeably, but they differ in their
meanings. Tests are products measuring specific behaviors or objectives, while
assessments are procedures used during and after instruction. Assessment results
can be interpreted and adjusted as needed, while tests are done after instruction,
providing a means to complete instruction and obtain results.
