AIM: Visit to a Community Nutrition programme in near by area INTRODUCTION : Community Nutrition incorporates the study of nutrition and the promotion of good health through food and nutrient intake in populations .The community rather than the individual is the focus of interest .The area of nutrition focuses on the promotion of good health and the primary prevention of diet – related illness. DEFINITION: Community nutrition has been defined as the group of activities linked to Applied Nutrition within the context of public Health , whose nation goal is to tailor individual and population food patterns according to updated scientific knowledge ,in a certain region with o final aim of health promotion. Objectives of the community nutrition program: To improve overall nutrition status vulnerable group. To overcome specific nutritional deficiencies among mothers and children To help tom achieve better nutrition through indirect schemes. The programmes objectives were to: halt further deterioation in the nutritional status of the most vulnerable groups (children under three and PlW) in targeted poor urban neighbourhoods: provide potable water to under-serviced neighbourhoods targeted under the nutrition programme:and enhance household food security among the poor urban population and in targeted poor rural areas during critical periods of vulnerability. COMMUNITY NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMMES : Large scale supplementary programees Main aim is to improve nutritional status in target groups. To overcome specific diseases through various ministries to combat malnutrition. POST AND PRE-PREGANANCY NUTRITION PROGRAMMES : ANNA AMRUTHA HASTHAM: This programme is conducted in the community nutrition center itself only they give cooked rice,leafy vegetables curry and sambar so that they can get good nutrition and can able to build up the health. YSR SAMPURNA POSHANA: This is an take home ration (THR) ,where it has been distributed to the pregnancy woman in the community nutrition center .This has some of the protein based ,iron riched food items those are Poha -1kg Jowar flour-1kg Ragi flour -1kg Dry dates -1/4 kg Peanut chikki- 1/4kg Milk packets- 200ml packet Eggs -25
6MONTHS – 3YEARS CHILDREN NUTRITION PROGRAMME
The programme is majorly based on the infant baby who is are ready to talk the soild food for their growth and improvement in the body. This has been given to them as the take home ration in the community nutrition center itself and these have some of the vitamins and rich calcium, iron food items. This will be given to 25 days in a month for their nutrition development purpose. Those are : Balaamrutham -2 half kg Eggs-25 days Milk- 100ml packet (each day) 3YEARS-6YEARS CHILDREN Y.S.R PRE SCHOOL This has been called as Y.S.R PRE SCHOOL as the name itself indicates that it is the primary school where the children can get knowledge by learning the basic education. This programme majorly invented to attract backward class children to educated and give food along with education . This how the government started to educate all the people at the age of 3 to 6 years .This has been done at the community nutrition center (anganvadi center) where they provide some of the food items like cooked rice, any vegetable curry ,leafy vegetables curry mostly used (asparagus,gongura) ,sambar , 1 egg (daily one )as the lunch at school and in the evening as snacks they provide boiled milk and given to the children. In such a way that they provide Nutritious food to the children . RESULT: As I have visited this Nutrition center I got to know about many new things about the foods that are mostly preferred to the post and pre pregnancy and also to the 6months to 3years children,3years to 6years children. I really appreciate the governments concerning on the people who are low class and backward .This may give mostly nutrition to them .
