CPI UNITS
To effectively treat produced water, a system design
incorporating various water treatment applications working in Atmospheric System – Box type design
stages, is required.
During the first stage, a CPI unit is used to separate free oil and
solids. CPI units can be designed to fit into any water treatment
system or can be used as a primary separation application.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION
• Oily water enters the CPI unit through the
produced water inlet and flows across each
CPI pack.
• Velocity is slowed and gross, free oil droplets
rise toward the top.
• Clean water flows upward through the clean
water outlet and out of the CPI unit.
• Residual small free droplets and solids
particles enters the CPI packs. Separated
solids in the CPI pack flow down the valleys
of the corrugations to the bottom of the CPI
pack.
• It is necessary to periodically remove sludge
from the unit. Typically the sludge is pumped
from the hopper, and sludge removal is
performed while the unit is still operating in
the “in service” mode.
