CORRUGATED PLATE INTERCEPTOR (CPI)

Enhanced Gravity Oil Water Separator Solutions for Onshore and Offshore Applications

OVERVIEW
With over 45 years of experience, Monarch Separators offers
reliable products and technologies that have been installed
globally, illustrating proven performance, value, and quality.
Monarch Separators consults with every client to understand
and help meet their produced water treatment objectives.

CPI UNITS
To effectively treat produced water, a system design
incorporating various water treatment applications working in Atmospheric System – Box type design
stages, is required.
During the first stage, a CPI unit is used to separate free oil and
solids. CPI units can be designed to fit into any water treatment
system or can be used as a primary separation application.

ADVANTAGES OF MONARCH CPI UNIT

Monarch Separators offers economical turnkey, low
maintenance and custom designed solutions including:

• Monarch’s Variable Froth Skim (VFS™) Below Grade - Fabricated from steel or concrete and may include the
additional requirements for containment and leak detection.
Monarch’s CPI Units have a long working life reputation because
there’s no mechanical moving parts. In addition, Monarch CPI
units are designed to meet many operating conditions such as:
• Pressure & temperature
• Produced water properties
• Inlet oil and solids level
• Outlet specifications
Some of Monarch Separators’ popular designs include:
• Atmospheric Systems
• Above Grade / Below Grade
• Side Flow CPI (SCPI) Side Flow CPI (SCPI) – Pressurized design fabricated in accordance with

PROCESS DESCRIPTION
• Oily water enters the CPI unit through the
produced water inlet and flows across each
CPI pack.
• Velocity is slowed and gross, free oil droplets
rise toward the top.
• Clean water flows upward through the clean
water outlet and out of the CPI unit.
• Residual small free droplets and solids
particles enters the CPI packs. Separated
solids in the CPI pack flow down the valleys
of the corrugations to the bottom of the CPI
pack.
• It is necessary to periodically remove sludge
from the unit. Typically the sludge is pumped
from the hopper, and sludge removal is
performed while the unit is still operating in
the “in service” mode.
