2 слайд Birobidzhan is the capital of the Jewish Autonomous Region, one
of the smallest regional centers and the only city in Russia where names are
duplicated in Yiddish.
There is a stereotype that many Jews live in Birobidzhan and that every
inhabitant knows Yiddish.

Birobidzhan. But the number of people who speak Yiddish is unknown. One of
them is Elena Sarashevskaya, editor of the Birobidzhaner Stern newspaper.
Birobidzhaner Stern is a local newspaper that has been published since 1935 in two
languages: Russian and Yiddish.

5 слайд The main attractions of the city are located on the left bank of the
Bira River. Numerous squares, parks, and monuments tell about the history of the
capital of the Jewish Autonomous Region. The visiting card of the city is the
station square with a fountain and Menorah - a Jewish ritual candlestick,
symbolizing the rebirth of the Jewish people. Also at the station there is a
monument to the first settlers.
6-7 слайд The Theater Square is unique with a philharmonic hall, a light
and music fountain and flowerbeds built in the form of a Menorah. On the theater
square there are sculptures of Greek gods and a figurine of a violinist, a symbol of
national Jewish color.
8 слайд The Birobidzhan synagogue "Beit Menachem" was opened in
autumn 2004, when the Jewish Autonomous Region celebrated its 70th
anniversary. In the synagogue there is a museum of Judaica(the science of
Judaism), an audio library, an exposition, which presents the prayer books of the
first settlers.
9 слайд Another visiting card of Birobidzhan is the television tower built on
top of the Tikhonkaya hill. It can be easily seen from anywhere in the city.

city is no longer comfortable for life. But despite this, for me it will forever remain
a small, beautiful and cozy city.
