Case 1: Coordination of Developer Workspace Requirements

Problem Statement: The Consumer Solutions development team transitioned from

physical laptops to virtual desktops on a PAAS (Platform as a Service) platform, which
offered the convenience of using a single laptop for workspace. However, the
maintenance, security upgrades, patches, and potential downtime associated with
the PAAS platform posed challenges for the team. To address these concerns, IT
Delivery proposed a futuristic approach using a virtual Integrated Development
Environment (IDE) and a compact workspace solution. They prescribed specific
products for use but required a thorough understanding of the impact and validation
of developer requirements in this new setup.

My Contribution: As the point of contact, I took charge of conducting the evaluation

of the proposed solutions and facilitated discussions with all development team
leads. I assumed overall responsibility for collaborating on the following aspects:

1. Explaining the expectations of the evaluation phase and the impact of the
proposed product to the technical leads in the development teams.
2. Gathering data from all teams regarding connectivity requirements and
software tools used in the current developer workspace (PAAS VDI).
3. Filtering and refining the collected data based on the mode of connectivity
and statistical usage of the workspace by each team.
4. Aligning the expectations of the developers with the solution design team to
ensure that all relevant cases were addressed in the final version.

To accomplish these tasks, I organized multiple discussions and conducted one-on-

one chats with each team lead to understand their specific requirements in terms of
workspace usage and desired connectivity for their applications. This process aimed
to shape the future of developer workspaces by ensuring that the new solution met
the needs and preferences of the development teams.

By coordinating these efforts and facilitating effective communication, we aimed to

create an optimal workspace environment for the development team, promoting
productivity and efficiency.

 Case1: Developer workspace requirements coordination

Problem Statement
For the Consumer Solutions development team, the physical laptop were replaced by virtual
desktop on PAAS platform with Ubuntu, Windows. This solution helped a lot to get away
with second laptop for developers and use workspace from single laptop. However,
maintenance and fix of PAAS platform with security upgrades, patches or downtime still was
coming up as a challenge.
IT Delivery came up for this reason with a futuristic way of working, using a virtual IDE and
integrated small workspace kind of solution. Products in market were prescribed by them
for use, however it all need to understand the impact and also cross validate the
requirements of developer with this setup.
As per the proposal of IT Delivery the product evaluation was requiring understanding the
connectivity need and software’s used in development teams.

My Contribution:
I was point of contact for running the evaluation of the solutions and discussion with all
development team leads. I took up the responsibility in this overall solution to collaborate
for below things,
- Explaining the tech leads in development team the expectation of evaluation phase and
impact of product
- Collating data of all teams for connectivity, software tools used in current developer
workspace (PAAS VDI)
- Filter and refine the data with respect to mode of connectivity and statistics of team usage
of workspace.
- Align the expectation of developer to the solution designing team to ensure cases are
covered in final version

- I ensured the data is provided and discussed with the team involving required time of SPOC
so the day to day work is not impacted.
- My discussion and preparation of data in XLS for URL, Software used and connectivity need
helped to combine all the integration and details the inputs for product teams.
- Data collected from team was shared to teams for further analysis

- One of my coordination responsibilities was ensuring the teams understanding on product

usage and experimentation of it to establish use case in all area was required.
- In continuation to the task product is being used as POC and status and feedback collection
and informing relevant teams are process for the vIDE products

It was my task to get involved and inform all expectation in clear and crisp manner to various
teams so that they do not have to be involved for long duration. I ensured the filtering of
information and expectation is done and made sure to clarify all the features and relevance to
team ways of working in communication via mail and individual chats.
