As an educator and practitioner, I am often asked
whether the aesthetics industry is over-saturated and if
there is enough work to go round. It’s a completely valid
concern that many people thinking of changing careers
have. Each time, my answer remains the same: there
is always a place for well-trained, passionate medical
professionals in aesthetic medicine.
Demand for non-invasive aesthetic treatments has been
rising for a number of years. Whilst it’s true there are
increasing numbers of people offering injectables, not
every practitioner is a good practitioner. This is where
the difference lies and where those with a high level of
medical education, confidence, enthusiasm and integrity
can really shine.
Harley Academy has been a pioneering force at the
forefront of innovative aesthetics education for medical
professionals since 2015. We were the first Ofqual-
regulated, JCCP-approved training provider in the field. We
are Allergan’s preferred training provider and the General
Medical Council has awarded us the unique privilege of
providing Revalidation and Appraisal services for doctors
studying our Level 7 Diploma in Botox & Dermal Fillers.
From our flagship Level 7 Diploma to our eLearning and

Step 2: Practical Training

When you have completed your eLearning, you will visit one of our training
clinics for your full day of hands-on learning hosted in small groups of no
more than six students. Your day will have a clear structure to ensure all
students complete the course successfully.

Core Training Our Core Training is an in-depth cosmetic injectables training course
providing new injectors with the crucial mentorship required to begin a

Dermal Fillers This is the ideal pathway for students who aren’t yet ready to take the leap
into the Level 7 Diploma, but would like to gain more exposure to in-person,
expert training before they start practising unsupervised. The Observation
and Mentoring elements of this course will enhance your competence as a
safer injector over and above a standard Foundation Training.

Step 2: Observation Day

At this day-long session in the clinic you will watch a Harley Academy expert
perform live injectable treatment demonstrations.

These practical demos will take you through the full patient treatment cycle,
covering consultation, treatment planning, injecting, aftercare and post-
treatment advice. You will observe a variety of injection techniques and your
trainer will provide live instruction throughout.

Step 3: Mentoring Sessions

Two half-day sessions in our clinic for mentored one-to-one patient
treatments, performing botox and dermal fillers, respectively.

This type of targeted mentoring is the best way to gain practical skills and
experience as an aesthetic injector. You will see up to four patients per
session.

During each session, you will take the lead with each patient, learning the full
treatment cycle first-hand with the guidance of your Harley Academy expert
trainer.

In these one-to-one sessions, your mentor will ensure you are developing
your skills and gaining the live clinic experience necessary to become a
confident practitioner.

Step 4: Certification
After completing the Foundation Training on this course, you will receive a
foundation certificate that will allow you to gain insurance to begin practising
injectables. Upon sufficient completion of the full course, you will receive a
Harley Academy Core Training professional certificate.

Level 7 The Level 7 Diploma is the highest possible level of qualification in the UK for
non-surgical cosmetic procedures, meeting Health Education England’s 2016

Diploma Qualification Requirements. On our postgraduate course, you will gain hands-
on experience of treating 20 cases, as well as in-depth education in the theory

in Botox & and science of aesthetic injectables.

You will have lifelong access to this eLearning course, so that you can return
to it throughout your career to refresh your knowledge and use it as a
reference tool.

Step 1: Foundation & Induction

All our Level 7 students begin their course with our Foundation Training in
Botox & Dermal Fillers to ensure you have a sound base for beginning your
aesthetics career. This course will introduce you to aesthetic medicine with
basic anatomy and theory; you will also learn essential practical skills using
mannequins in the clinic.

Step 2: Observation Days

The Level 7 Diploma requires you to complete 20 observed cases, ten each in
botulinum toxin and dermal fillers. You will observe a Harley Academy trainer
administering these treatments on a live patient and will have the opportunity
to ask your trainer questions about the treatments and techniques used.

Step 3: Mentoring Sessions

The Level 7 Diploma requires you to complete 20 supervised treatments, ten
each in botulinum toxin and dermal fillers. You will have 1:1 mentoring with a
Harley Academy trainer supervising as you administer these treatments on a
live patient. In these sessions, your trainer will guide you from consultation
through treatment and will ensure you hone the necessary skills you will use
throughout your career.

Step 4: Assessment
To gain your Level 7 Diploma, you must successfully complete the assessments
as set by our awarding body, VTCT:

The Level 7 Diploma Once you have successfully completed our Level 7 course, you will be
awarded a Level 7 Diploma. This is the pinnacle of non-surgical aesthetics
qualifications in the UK and equivalent level to a master’s degree. It not only
ensures you are a safe, experienced and ethical practitioner, but will also set
you apart from competitors in a fast-moving field.

Ethics and law in aesthetic medicine. Good medical practice is essential for
a long-term career in aesthetics. Gain an understanding of how to protect
yourself and your patients, both legally and ethically.

Cosmetic Psychology. Recognising healthy and unhealthy psychological

drives is a crucial element of best practice in aesthetic medicine. Learn to
understand the signs of body dysmorphia and how to deal with patients who
may need to be refused treatment.

Skin Science. The skin is the foundation for all cosmetic procedures. In this
eLearning module, you will learn the structure and function of both the skin
and hair, plus how they age over time. You will also learn to recognise skin
conditions that contraindicate treatment, as well as referral pathways for
patients suffering from skin-related concerns.

If you’re interested in learning to manage skin conditions, clinical skin

rejuvenation treatments are taught as part of our Cosmetic Dermatology and
Aesthetic Medicine Specialty Training programmes.

Botulinum toxins & dermal fillers. In addition to observing at least ten botox
treatments and performing ten yourself, under close expert supervision,
with this eLearning, you will deepen your understanding of the science
of botulinum toxins and fillers. The module covers mechanisms of action,
how to consult for a wide range of indications, an array of optimal injection
techniques, plus how to manage complications and side-effects.

Course Structure You can achieve the Level 7 Diploma as soon as you submit your logbook and
successfully complete two forms of assessment.

Logbook Samples of treatment cases delivered over the past three years or more.
Samples must demonstrate evidence of patient consultation including pre-
treatment and post-treatment care plans (in the form of clinical notes, taken
from consultations).

A written reference from an experienced practitioner to confirm that you have

over three years experience, or have treated over 100 patients. The nominated
experienced practitioner who provides the reference must also meet these
requirements.

JCCP Fast Tack Experienced practitioners have another “Fast Track” option available to them,
delivered as a result of an industry partnership between Harley Academy, the

Assessment JCCP and Learna.

(FTA) This partnership stems from the need for healthcare practitioners to
demonstrate their competency in delivering an expert level of knowledge, skill
and care equivalent to those who’ve undertaken a regulated qualification.
This requirement is a direct result of the rise in customer demand for
cosmetic procedures as a whole and that practitioners should become more
accountable to the public with regard to their ‘fitness to practice’.

The JCCP is leading this initiative, setting standards and competency

frameworks for the industry in collaboration with the Cosmetic Practice
Standards Authority (CPSA).

Rather than awarding a qualification, the Fast Track Assessment (FTA) is

specifically designed for aesthetic practitioners looking to register with the
JCCP.

It consists of two separate components:

Part 1: Three hour theoretical examination. Held under exam conditions at
a London exam centre with an invigilator present, the exam consists of 100
‘best of five’ style multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The questions will be
based around typical clinical scenarios, which you’ll be able to identify in your
practice. The exam will cover the following topics with relative weightings on
each subject area:
L Anatomy (20%)
L Ageing and the skin (10%)
L Pharmacology/medicines management/safety (20%)
L Toxin treatments (15%)
L Filler treatments (15%)
L Ethics/medico-legal (10%)
L Audit/research (10%)

Part 2: Two hour Harley Academy Direct Observation of Practical Skills (DOPS)
examination. This takes place at Harley Academy and follows the same
methodology as the Harley Academy Level 7 Diploma qualification - whereby
the candidate is directly observed treating a live case under exam conditions.

For students with a minimum of 3 years experience and conduct at least 25

botulinum toxin and 25 facial filler procedures per year.

1:1 Injectables Treating a patient under the direct supervision of a qualified medical
professional in a safe, clinical environment will always be the best way to

Training learn. Our one-to-one training is flexible, maximises patient contact and
respects your most precious resource — your time.

One-to-one training is ideal for students who have completed more advanced
training and would like to learn or hone specific skills; you must have
completed basic training in botox and dermal fillers before you can attend
these courses. We currently offer three specialist areas:
L jawline and lower face
L mid-face and cannula
L perioral and lip filler.

Our one-to-one courses follow the same structural format.

1. You will complete self-paced pre-course eLearning, which will provide a
refreshed knowledge of the theory and science of injectable treatments,
before coming into the clinic for your patient treatment.
2. You will arrange for your own patient to come to our training clinic for
your appointment, this will allow you to conduct your own follow-up. Your
patient’s first treatment is included, with additional treatments charged at
£150 per 1ml administered.
3. In the clinic, your dedicated trainer will guide and supervise you through
the full patient treatment, from consultation and administration of the
treatment through to advice on follow-up.

Eligibility In addition to our standard eligibility requirements found under Course

Eligibility, you must also have your certification to provide botulinum toxin
and dermal filler treatments (eg Foundation Training in Botox & Dermal
Fillers).
