“Take advantage of the time you have and put all of your effort towards bettering

yourself” These are the last words my grandfather told me before passing away. It
completely changed my life around. Growing up as a first generation American, I
quickly took advantage that my parents would be there for me at all times. I was an
irresponsible student in high school and the years after that. This was many years
ago and now is the time I became to think and act as an adult.

Looking back at my childhood, I regret not paying attention to my parent’s advice

about paying attention in school. In high school, I was not self-motivated, did not
have many friends, and played video games religiously because I never took the
opportunity to study or even pick up a book. Even in college I would foolishly stop
going to many of my classes because I simply did not have any enthusiasm to go.
This has become my biggest regret and now I know I am more focused about school
after recent life changing event that have happened to me.

I believe that transferring to Rhode Island College (RIC) would give me a better
opportunity to focus on my academics. Studying hard and working to pay off tuition
will make more aware of my responsibilities and will push me towards my career. I
know that I can completely my life around and better my future here at RIC.
Transferring here would help me prove to my family and close friends that I can
achieve one of the many goals I have set for myself.

Going to Rhode Island College will be a huge milestone for me as I have always
wanted to go to a four-year college because it has been known to be more
prestigious. If I am to become the first college graduate in my family I want it to be
Rhode Island College because of the great opportunities it gives to many students.
Fulfilling my grandfather’s request will mean the world to me and now that I am
more focused on myself I know I will not let him or my family down.
