Throughout the seventeen years of my life my parents have always pushed me

to be the best student I could possibly be so that I could have a great future, which
starts with college. Not only did they want me to be a great student,; along with that,
they wanted me to be a great athlete. Although sometimes I just wanted to give up and
stop doing sports due to the lack of sleep from the long days of school, homework, and
practice; I’m glad my parents never let me give up even when that is all I wanted to do.
At times I felt like I was pushing myself to do things that my parents wanted, not what I
wanted. I got a lot of positive things out of being pushed by my parents, but this did
cause us to bump heads a lot.
I’m the oldest child and I am also the only girl which means for some reason my
parents have always been way harder on me compared to my brothers. My parents
have always wanted me to play sports while going to school which was difficult at times;
however, there are advantages like meeting a lot of new people due to sports. Most of
the people I know are people I met through sports whether it be competitive, for
recreation, or for my school. Being a busy kid made me realize how important managing
time and working hard was.
As I got to middle school, my parents would talk more and more about college
and how big of a deal it is. They would do a lot of things to get me looking at different
colleges that I might be interested in attending when I am older. I remember in middle
school my parents would take me to all the Oregon Ducks softball games whenever
they played in California because that was one of my dream schools when I was
younger. I always looked at the players and hoped one day I would get the same
opportunity they had. When it wasn’t softball season they would take me to UOP
basketball games since they were only an hour away from where I live. They did
everything they could to interest me in different colleges.
My dad was born in México but he was very lucky enough to be able to attend
the University of Pacific however my mom wasn’t fortunate enough to be able to attend
college. I think this is one of the bigger reasons why my parents want me to go to
college. They know how important it is for me to get an education and be able to
become great in whatever career I want to be in. I want to be able to go to college and
make my parents proud so they know that all their hard work of pushing me has paid
off. I owe my parents the world and I know going to college and working hard to earn my
degree will be something that will make them very happy. I’ve always wanted to go to
college but I never really knew the true meaning of having the opportunity to attend
college. Many people aren’t fortunate enough to be able to receive an education
however I do have the chance to. I want to attend college not only for myself but for all
the other kids my age who wished they could be in my situation. Becoming a forensic
odontologist is going to be a difficult journey but I know with the right education at a
great school I will be able to follow this dream.
Being around my family a lot has made me have a really big and caring heart. I
love helping others in any way possible and becoming a forensic odontologist allows me
to do this in a very unique way. I’ve always been interested in criminal justice/forensics
as well as being an orthodontist so this career is a great choice for me. This career will
allow me to help people in a very unique and special way where I’m actually enjoying
my job and interested. I’ve seen people who hate their jobs and I can’t imagine forcing
myself to do a job that I don’t even enjoy. I know if I become a forensic orthodontist I will
enjoy my job because there’s always so many different, unique cases where I’ll have
the opportunity to work in. Not only that, but if things as a forensic odontologist wouldn’t
work out I would still have my DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry) degree which will
allow me to become a dentist.
My parents have pushed me in so many ways that I could never thank them
enough. I’m so lucky to have all these different opportunities that will allow me to reach
my goals in life. College is one of many steps I will have to go through to become
successful which I am willing to work very hard for. It’s exciting to think about the
opportunity I have to be able to attend college and gain even more knowledge and
experience that will help me in the future. I can’t wait until I finally reach the end of my
goal and make not only myself proud but all the others around me proud as well.
