Where Only The Small Things Matter

Growing up, I always said that I wanted to do so many things in life. During my middle

school years, I had so many careers in mind that I wanted to go into, but they had something to

do with some things I knew I didn't want to deal with my whole life. At some point in life, I said

I wasn't going to college because it was too much school and money. My parents came here

without anything and gave me everything, so I genuinely understand why parents who

immigrated here have this mindset " Education, as seen by her parents, was the tool necessary to

succeed in the United States"(Chavez 39). I want my parents to be proud of me, but not only am

I doing everything I'm doing for them, but I'm also doing it for me and my future. I want to be

successful and meet all the goals that I have set for myself. As a first-generation student, I

understand that this is such an essential step for me because my parents didn't have the

opportunity that I now have to be able to become someone in life and be successful in life.

I am Yatzelie, I'm 18 years old, and one thing about me is that I always do my best to

accomplish my goals. I don't let anything or anyone change my mind about what I want to do for

my future. I am a strong and intelligent person who doesn't give up when things get complicated.

I keep on pushing myself to do better. I am such a caring, understanding, and supportive person.

I care too much for people, and sometimes it's a bad thing, which made me realize that "Your

time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life" (Jobs). I take time management is

severe, especially now that I'm close to graduating. I also attend Kent Career Technical Center,

where I take a class for Medical Assisting. I enjoy that class a lot because there are plenty of

hands-on experiences, and I'm a visual learner, so it really helps. We do a lot of testing as well,

so that is also one of the reasons why I take time management so seriously. At the end of the

year, on May 3, I am going to take a state exam which will determine if I get certified as a

Medical Assistant. I sometimes doubt myself because I see others way ahead of me in that class,

but doubting is what causes you to fail. I love to spend time with my friends and family. I have

such a close bond with my parents, and that's something I would never trade. They are so

supportive, and they are the reason why I'm doing everything I'm doing right now, and every

single accomplishment goes to them. They never gave up on me, even after all the mistakes I

made in the past. Some of my future goals are to become successful in life and be able to help

my parents with whatever they need help with. To do that, I will go to college and get into a

nursing program to pursue my Bachelors in Nursing. It is a competitive program, but I will do

whatever it takes to get into it. After I graduate, I would like to pass my NCLEX to be a

registered nurse in a neonatal nursing unit. Later on, after I gain experience, I would love to

become a travel nurse because I would like to be able to travel while doing something I enjoy.

After a couple of years, I want to get married and have children because a family is very

important to me. One of the last and most important goals for me is to get my Master's Degree in

Nursing to become a Midwife Nurse. I know that all these goals aren't going to be easy to

accomplish, but I will give everything I have in me to be able to meet all of them.

To be able to reach my goals, I will have to start by going to GRCC for two years and

taking my prerequisites there, and then transfer to Ferris State University for my last two Years

and apply to the Nursing program there. After being accepted, I will continue to study and give it

everything until I graduate with my BSN. I'll have to take my NCLEX, and that will determine if

I become a Registered Nurse. After passing my NCLEX, I would love to get a job at a neonatal

unit and take care of babies. Not only would I work with babies, but I would also "... work with

the families of their patients during some of the most highly emotional times of their lives" ("Are

you cut out..."). To achieve that, I will have to give up many things I enjoy doing, like spending

time with my family and having fun with my friends. I will also have to manage my time well.

That would be nothing new for me because I am doing that same thing as of right now due to the

Medical Assisting class that I'm taking. That said, I will have a good mindset, such as, "Fun

comes after priorities." I know for a fact that on my career path, there are going to be ups and

downs, but I will never give up and keep on pushing myself to accomplish every single thing I

promised myself that I'll achieve.

Life has not been easy for me. As humans, we've all made mistakes, but we learn good

and bad things from them. I know I have many things to experience and learn from, but I will

know how to overcome them. I could not have gotten this far without the love and support of my

family and, most importantly, my parents. I am willing to give up anything to be successful and

make my parents proud because they are my biggest motivation in life. Every step and mistake I

make will help and encourage me to become stronger and pass the finish line in my personal and

career paths.
