F. Fuel Nozzle Removal
SUBTASK 73-11-04-024-004-C00

DO NOT LET THE FUEL FROM THE FUEL MANIFOLD STAY ON YOUR SKIN.
THE FUEL MANIFOLD IS FULL OF FUEL. YOU CAN ABSORB POISONOUS
WARNING MATERIALS FROM THE FUEL THROUGH YOUR SKIN.

(1) Remove the fuel nozzle:

(a) Apply the penetrating oil (CP2162) or aerokroil (CPN 2691), D50187 (alternate) with a
spray gun on all the fuel nozzle bolts at the fuel nozzle flange.
(b) Put a container below the removed fuel nozzle to catch the fuel leakage.

CFM ALL; ENGINES PRE-CFM-SB 73-0116 (WITH FUEL DRAIN MANIFOLDS)

(c) Disconnect the drain line from the shroud.
CFM ALL
(d) Remove the shroud connector of the fuel manifold from the fuel nozzle.

DO NOT MOVE THE SHROUD CONNECTOR REARWARD TOO FAR TO

GET ACCESS TO THE COUPLING NUT OF THE FUEL SUPPLY LINE.
CAUTION THIS CAN PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SHROUD CONNECTOR.

(e) Move the shroud connector rearward until you can get access to the coupling nut of the
fuel supply line.
(f) Remove the coupling nut from the fuel nozzle.
(g) Remove the three bolts from the fuel nozzle flange.
NOTE: At some positions, manifold hinge brackets or engine plumbing brackets are
installed with the fuel nozzle. It is necessary to remove these brackets for
removal of the fuel nozzle. Identify the bolts and brackets by the position number.
Count the nozzles clockwise from nozzle No. 1, to get the position of the
removed fuel nozzle. Nozzle No. 1 is located almost to the right of the 12:00
o'clock position.
(h) Move the fuel nozzle forward to remove the nozzle tip from the combustor swirl cup.
(i) Turn the fuel nozzle clockwise while you move the fuel supply line at an angle to the
combustion case.
(j) Remove the fuel nozzle and gasket from the combustion case.
(k) Discard the C-ring seal from the gasket.
(l) Keep a record of the part number, serial number and position of the removed fuel nozzle.
(m) Remove and discard the O-ring from the fuel nozzle.
(n) Do a visual inspection of the fuel nozzle wear sleeves.
NOTE: On some fuel nozzle assemblies, the wear sleeve does not have a continuous
weld to attach it to the fuel nozzle. Such fuel nozzle wear sleeves have four
individual weld spots. This is a 4-interrupted weld design.
1) If the wear sleeve is dislodged (not attached), it is not serviceable.
a) Replace the fuel nozzle and do a borescope inspection for downstream
damage, or see the maximum service extension
(TASK 72-00-00-216-023-C00).

(d) Put the gasket on the fuel nozzle flange.

MAKE SURE THE FILTER SCREEN IS IN ITS POSITION AND IS

INSTALLED CORRECTLY IN INLET OF THE FUEL NOZZLE. THIS CAN
CAUTION PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

(e) Before you install the fuel nozzle, make sure the filter screen is installed in inlet of the fuel
nozzle.
1) If there is no filter screen, replace the fuel nozzle.
NOTE: The filter screen are installed only in the PARKER-HANNIFIN fuel nozzle.
(f) Before you install the fuel nozzle with permitted damage, visually examine the inlet
strainer for contamination.
1) If the inlet strainer looks clogged, carefully remove the inlet strainer with a small
pick.
2) Clean and/or replace the inlet strainer.
NOTE: If a new strainer is not available, you can get a serviceable inlet strainer
from a used fuel nozzle.
3) You can clean the inlet strainer by hand in clean fuel or solvent, B00148 and blow
the contamination out with air (15 to 25 psi [100-170 Kpa]).

DO NOT USE FORCE TO PUSH THE FUEL NOZZLE INTO THE

COMBUSTION CASE. DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE FUEL NOZZLE
AND COMBUSTION CASE.
DO NOT USE THE FUEL NOZZLES WITH FLANGE PINS ON
COMBUSTION CASES THAT DO NOT HAVE MOUNTING PADS
SCALLOPS. DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE FUEL NOZZLE AND
COMBUSTION CASE.
CAUTION
FUEL NOZZLES WITHOUT FLANGE PINS CAN BE INSTALLED ON
COMBUSTION CASES WITH AND WITHOUT MOUNTING PAD
SCALLOPS. FUEL NOZZLES WITH FLANGE PINS CAN ONLY BE
INSTALLED ON COMBUSTION CASES WITH MOUNTING PAD
SCALLOPS.
(g) Point the fuel nozzle tip forward to install the fuel nozzle into the combustion case.
(h) Carefully, turn the fuel nozzle counterclockwise while you push it in to the mounting pad.

WARNING
(c) Apply 15 psi (104 KPa) minimum dry air or nitrogen.

MAKE SURE THE TIME WITH TEST PRESSURE BETWEEN 60 AND 200
PSIG IS KEPT TO A MINIMUM. THIS CAN PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE
CAUTION FUEL NOZZLE SECONDARY VALVES.

(d) Slowly increase the pressure (up to 60 psig (414 KPa gage)) until the pressure is stable
(will not increase).
NOTE: Do not pressurize more than 60 psig. High pressures as much as to 200 psi
(1300 KPa gage) can be used, but it will cause leakage of dry air or nitrogen
through fuel nozzles.
1) The pressure is stable at the pressure which one of the fuel nozzle check valves
opens (between 15 and 30 psig).
