II. Write your reflection on the following questions:

1. How does the youth play a vital role in nation-building?

The youth play a vital role in nation-building due to the fact that the youth will one day be the
next leaders of society in the near future. It is imperative that at the young age, the youth are molded
into better characters suited to enhancing the nation that they live in. As they participate in nation-
building activities, their skills in helping and assisting the nation are honed and developed, making them
well suited to become the leaders that they are meant to be.

Additionally, youth are often innovative and creative in nature, qualities that are necessary in
social and economic growth. Young people often bring out new ideas and perspective that may give rise
to new innovations that can benefit the nation. Young people are also generally known to be lively and
energetic which will be harnessed through voluntarism and social and political activism.

Youth are also in the forefront when it comes to social movement as in some nations, youth hold
a significant percentage in the population which gives youth a demographic advantage. This means, that
the youth has the power to influence others for a better cause and establish important and effective
social reforms.

2. What are your thoughts about mandatory ROTC for all students
who will enter the tertiary level for the first time?

The ROTC component of the NSTP delivers benefits for the nation, like how it ensures the
increase in the number of trained individuals that would improve national defenses when the time of
need comes. However, I am personally opposed to mandatory the mandatory aspect of it for students
that will enter the tertiary level education for the first time, due to the fact that not everyone is suited
for the kinds of activities performed in the ROTC component of the NSTP. Some students’ interest lie in
the civic welfare training, others in literacy training. Students should be given a right to choose whether
or not to undergo ROTC.
