a. How was the town at the beginning of the story?
At the beginning of the story, the town was described as a place where all life
seemed to live in harmony with its surroundings. The fields of grain and hillsides of
orchards were prosperous, and the roads were lined with laurel, viburnum, and alder,
great ferns, and wildflowers. The streams flowed clear and cold out of the hills and
contained shady pools where trout lay.
b. How is it currently?
Currently, the town is experiencing a strange blight that has affected the animals,
plants, and even the people in the community. Mysterious maladies have swept the
flocks of chickens, cattle and sheep sickened and died. The once-beautiful roadsides
are now lined with brown and withered vegetation, the streams are now lifeless, and
all the fish had died.
c. How is it predicted to be in the future?
In the future, if the people do not take action, the town will continue to suffer from
the strange blight, and the natural beauty and resources of the area will continue to
decline.
d. In your opinion, does the story give any message for us? Which one?
Explain it on your own words.
The story is a warning about the dangers of not taking care of the environment. It
shows how humans can destroy the natural balance of ecosystems and the
consequences of doing so. The message is that humans need to be responsible for
their actions and take care of the environment, or they will suffer the consequences.

build a factory near the town. The company began clearing the forests and dumping
waste into the ocean, causing the fish population to decline drastically. Tom noticed
that his daily catch was shrinking, and Lisa observed the once vibrant colors of the
landscape fading away.

water became polluted, and people fell ill from consuming the contaminated fish. The
air became thick with toxic fumes, making it difficult to breathe. The natural beauty

survive.

eventually succeeded in shutting down the factory. The forests were replanted, and
