Prime Factorization
Prime factorization means you are breaking down the number into the smallest factors possible.
Remember a factor is a number that gets multiplied to find the answer, or product.
When you multiply all the factors together the product is the original number.

45 is the number.
45 5 and 9 are the factors because 5x9=45.

5 is a prime number, so you do not need

5 x 9 to find itʼs factors.

9 is composite, you need find the factors.

3 x 3 The prime factors are 3, 3, and 5 or 32x5

3x3=9, 9x5=45
