ACTIVITY TITLE: Essay #10: Disaster Awareness, Preparedness and Management
REALIZATION, INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS
What is your role or contribution in our country’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
(DRRM) Plan ?
Student’s Answer:

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (NDRRMP) is a comprehensive strategy
designed to tackle four primary focus areas: disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness,
disaster response, and post-disaster rehabilitation and recovery. The plan is implemented to enhance the
capabilities of both the national and local governments and stakeholders to minimize disaster risks,
encompassing various initiatives related to climate change, disaster reduction, and national preparedness.
As a student, I can contribute to the DRRM of our country by disseminating information about disaster
risk, sharing my knowledge about disaster preparedness plans, and providing solutions in emergencies so
that people are equipped and prepared enough to take action. Most citizens who actively participate in
the DRRM plan are thoroughly prepared and have established family disaster preparedness plans,
complete with awareness of the appropriate timing for evacuation during disasters.

There are numerous avenues through which an individual can make a meaningful contribution to the
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Plan. However, one of the most prevalent and impactful
ways is by raising awareness about disaster risks. Sharing knowledge and information about disaster risks
is prominent within the spectrum of DRRM efforts for several compelling reasons. Moreover, raising
awareness contributes to a culture of preparedness. When people are well-informed about disaster risks
and the importance of preparedness, they are more likely to create emergency plans, assemble disaster
supply kits, and participate in drills and exercises. This collective readiness ensures individual safety and
bolsters the resilience of entire communities.

In conclusion, while there are multiple ways for individuals to contribute to the DRRM Plan, sharing
awareness about disaster risk stands out as a fundamental and widely accessible approach. It empowers
people to take proactive measures, promotes a culture of preparedness, fosters community engagement,
and encourages collaboration among stakeholders. Raising awareness about disaster risks empowers
individuals and communities and fosters a culture of readiness. When people are well-informed and
engaged, they are better equipped to take timely action, ultimately enhancing their safety and the
resilience of society as a whole. In this collective effort, individuals who actively participate in the DRRM
plan, Equipped with their readiness plans and understanding of evacuation procedures, they serve as a
prime example of the potential for a nation that is both more resilient and better prepared to face
disasters.
