ROBLOX

I) Definition:

Roblox is an online gaming platform where users can create their


own virtual worlds with the game creation System called Roblox
Studio. It is available on computers, phones and consoles. The
platform has more tan 5’000,000 game creators and more tan
200 million players since October 2019. The age required to play
is 8 years and older.

II) History:

Roblox was created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel in 2003


under the name GoBlocks, but it was officially renamed
Dynablocks in 2004.
In 2005, Roblox became known as Roblox, a combination of the
words “Robot” and “Blocks”.
A year after its release, the video game became compatible with
the COPPA law for the protection of children. Memberships for
custom game and content creators were added in 2007 and the
game was released for the Xbox in 2016. The same year it also
launched for Windows 10, which would end its adaptation to the
most famous platforms.

III) Characteristics:

- Game: The activities in the game world include exploration,


resoure gathering, mini-games and combat. Players can
customize their virtual characters with various items, players
can create their own clothing ítems, they can also collect and
trade items and they have the option of being able to use
animations for their characters. Some of the objects, you can
found in the avatar store and they are sold with “Robux” the
main currency of the game, which is obtained by buying cash
with euros, dollars or also through a “Roblox Premium”
membership.
- Social Interaction: Players can add other people they meet in
the game to their Friends list. Players also have access to join
groups that are communities within Roblox, which cost 100
robux.

- Edition: Game development and construction is done using


the Roblox Studio System, a free program that is not included
with Roblox. Players can use Roblox Studio to build locations
with bricks of different colors and shapes. They are also able
to use plugins and build tools, they can use external tools like
blender to create 3D models.

IV) How do you play these Roblox games?

 Adopt Me!: In this game the players pretending to be parents


or playing as adopted babies. The players can care of pets and
trade with other players. Adopt Me! was considered the most
played game on Roblox in March 2021.
 Jailbreak: It’s a game about cops and robbers consisting of
prisons trying to escape and exploring the world for robbery
and cops trying to catch them.
 Welcome to Bloxburg: The game is about working for income
to design and build a house.
 Fleet he facility: The game involves up to 4 players facing off
against an enemy known as “The beast”, whom they must
avoid while completing objectives to win the game.
 Epic Minigames: It’s a game that has many minigames within
it and when you win each game, you obtain a badge. The
game reached 1 billion views.
