UNIT 1: LESSON 1
INTRODUCTION TO SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & SOCIETY

I. Answer the following comprehensive questions to the best of your knowledge. You may
elaborate some key points as well.

Guide Questions:
1. How is Science, Technology and Society related with one another?
Science is the study of the natural world through observation and experiments. It helps us
understand how things work and improve our society. Technology, on the other hand, is the
application of scientific knowledge to achieve specific goals. It is driven by the demands of
society and the advancements in science. For example, the invention of agriculture transformed
our society by allowing us to grow crops and raise livestock for food instead of relying solely on
hunting and gathering. This technological innovation greatly benefited society, making life
easier. This, in turn, propelled further advancements in science and technology. The two are
interconnected, with science informing technology and technology enabling further scientific
progress. This cycle has led to incredible achievements, such as the invention of the internet,
which has revolutionized society and technology in various fields.

2. Why do you think the society readily accepts the benefits of science and technology even
though negative results come out from them?
Well, as humans, we rely heavily on science and technology in our day-to-day lives for various
reasons. Science helps us understand the world around us, and technology makes our lives easier,

more efficient, and more comfortable. We readily accept their benefits because they bring
tremendous advancements and improvements in many aspects of our society.
