Assignment #7

Every time a new product or service is launched, the operations manager is affected on a broad
scale. Screening for viability, the associated costs, and every other factor. This also applied to
every employee at Apple, not simply the operations manager. When introducing a new product,
especially one that is revolutionary, there are many details that must be addressed, and as the
operations manager, you must be aware of every detail. One of the iPhone developers talked
about how difficult the entire process was in the film, as well as how the project’s launch led to
his divorce. Because you create value for your customers, your product strategy must be centred
on their needs and desires. As a result, it must include an offering for your customers. Similar to
when FingerWorks released the gesture pad, this product strategy was effective while
maintaining its competitive edge since it focused on providing something that a particular market
niche wanted and valued. When generating a new product, you need to understand a few things:
1) Understanding the customer
2) Economic change
3) Sociological and demographic change
4) Technological change
5) Political and legal change
6) Market practice, professional standards, suppliers and distribution

Apple was aware of the market and the latest technological developments. It identified a gap in
the market and created a fresh idea that offered Apple a competitive edge. The concept is the first
step in the product development process; Apple had that. The operations manager then needs to
check the viability, the customer requirements, the functional specifications, the product
specifications, the design review, the test market, the introduction, and finally the evolution.
Apple underwent each of these phases of product development. The product considered
consumer needs, reviewed functional requirements, worked painstakingly to perfect the keyboard
function, and developed the slide-to-unlock feature by comprehending those needs. Before the
final product was developed, there were numerous prototypes and brainstorming sessions that
took place. Even after it was released, improvements were made, for instance, the screen was
changed from plastic to glass one month after launch, thus also fulfilling the evolution aspect that
is happening in apple’s case to this day. To understand consumer requirements and response,
everything was put to the test. The prototype test run at the end of the contact list caused the
rubber banding effect to appear, and so on.
The product strategy is typically flexible at first, and this was also true of Apple during the
introduction stage. However, as the company began to grow, their strategy also became more
stable.
