Hyperlinks
Definition:
A hyperlink is a connection from one slide in a presentation to
another location. The other location can be another slide in
the current presentation, a slide in another presentation, a file,
a Web page address, or an e-mail address.

Any text or object on the slide including a clip art, WordArt,

graph, or image can be made into a clickable hyperlink.
Click for
more info Hyperlinks are not active in any of the PowerPoint views
used to develop slide shows, but become clickable when
the show is run.

This presentation will examine various types of hyperlinks and methods for
jumping to slides. We will begin with hyperlinks to the World Wide Web:

Linear vs. Non-linear Navigation
 The linear presentations that have been developed up to this point are
effective for short speaker-led slide shows or any presentation that is
always run from beginning to end. Linear presentations make use of the
basic navigation provided by PowerPoint, moving forward and backward
one slide at a time.
 By contrast, non-linear interactive presentations allow the order of a
slide show to be determined by the viewer. Interactive slide shows are
effective as kiosks, websites, and presentations that change based on
the audience.

Nonlinear navigation is added to a presentation using

hyperlinks and action buttons. These features provide an
intuitive way for users to move directly to materials of interest.
Each hyperlink or action button is linked to a specific slide, another
slide show, a Web page, or a file. The audience may view every
slide in the presentation, or just those of current interest.

Action Buttons
PowerPoint includes objects called action buttons that can
be inserted in a presentation and assigned a hyperlink.
Definition:
Action buttons consist of shapes, such as right- and left-facing arrows,
that are used to navigate through a presentation. They are designed
specifically for self-running presentations and presentations that run on
a company network or the Web. Action buttons perform their associat-
ed action when you click on them or pass the mouse over them.

Once the button is placed on a slide, it is assigned a

hyperlink that controls its action. Action buttons are effective
when a simple pictorial interface is needed for moving
between slides, playing movies, or playing sounds.
